  1. Nope, I haven't heard back from anyone else yet. I started applying to rolling admission schools though.
  2. Congratulations on getting into BU. I also have a low GPA and not stellar GREs; but I am employed as a research assistant for the public health department at a consumer's medical resource company in Massachusetts. And have worked in biomedical research previously while getting my undergrad. I am really hoping I can get in to at least one of the schools I've applied to and I hope that's BU. Applied: 5 (BU, UMass Amherst, U Pittsburgh, U Minnesota, U Miami) Withdrew:0/5 Accepted: 0/5 Rejected: 1/5 (U Pittsburgh) Waitlisted: 0/5
  3. Got my first rejection today. It's sad, but I still have 4 more schools to hear from.
  4. This might sound like an odd request for some of you, but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share some quotes of their acceptance letters/email on this threat. I feel like it will be helpful for all those who are still anxiously waiting to hear back. It just give us something to look up to.
  5. Thank you everybody. It's nice to have other people's insights. I was getting the same feeling as well. I guess I just needed to hear from someone else.
  6. My dear Public Health people, I need some advice. So, I applied to 5 schools so far, two programs each and I haven't heard back from any schools yet (partly because I applied after priority deadline). Anyways, I see that a lot of people applied to at least 10 places. My question for you smart people is: should I continue applying to other schools or just wait to hear from the ones I've applied thus far? The pool of places I've applied so far consist of a diverse mix of top programs and safe ones.
  7. Thank you for your honest responses. I am retaking the GRE this coming Friday. My plan is to ace the quant section. We'll see how it goes.
  8. Hello, I've been a follower of gradcafe for a while. I graduated in May 2013 with a BS in Public Health and have been working as a research assistant in clinical research ever since. Due to circumstances such as having to adapt to the US education system, having to learn in a second language and having to work my butt off while going to school full time I was not able to finish college with strong grades. I graduated with a cumulative GPA of 2.72 and a major specific GPA of 3.0. Also, since I'm not a good tester when it comes to standardized tests I did awful in the GRE's (verb 145, quant 138 and wr 3.5). I would like to continue my education as I dream of becoming an infectious disease epidemiologist. However, having extremely low GPA and GRE can be seen as huge red flags by admission officers. On the other hand, I have been doing research ever since I've been a junior in college and have been hired as a research assistant by a reputable company. Also, I took a graduate level biostatistics class at a research university this past summer, earning a final grade of A-. I am very active at the Society for Epidemiology Research and I participate at different conferences and workshops. I have nothing, but excellent LORs and I think I make a pretty good case for why I want to be an epidemiologist on my SOP. I guess my question for you my fellow applicants is the following, should I even bother applying to schools with the credentials I just mention? The admission process is said to be holistic, but is that really true?? Any comments on this? Thank you for your time.
  9. I called the Department of Epidemiology this morning and they say they're still processing decisions, but the student affairs person took my ID number and say my decision will be send to me within today or tomorrow. I don't know if I did the right thing in calling and requesting my decision. Does anyone think this can affect the decision?
  10. I didn't apply to the MsPH program, because they only allow you to apply to two programs at a time. And yeah, i supposed they will send both decisions (Ms, PhD) at once. I think I will call them to inquire today. Did your potential faculty supervisor emailed you the decision or was it a more general email?
  11. I applied to both Msc and PhD programs. I'm getting my bachelors this May and from what Dr. Buckeridge told me they usually don't accept candidates right straight from undergrad, but he said I could try. I'm aiming for the Msc anyways, at least for now. Did they interview you for the PhD?
  12. I'm sorry it wasn't positive for you. I called them on Monday and they said decisions have been made and they're supposed to be sent out this week. I can't tell you how many times a day I have been checking my email and Minerva for any updates. I really hope they're out soon. This is driving me crazy.
  13. Has anyone heard back from McGill PhD or MS in Epidemiology??/ I can't take this wait anymore.
  14. Me too!! According to the result boards rejections had been going out last week. Hopefully the no rejected/no accepted is a good sign
  15. According to the Results Board there are 3 people that have been rejected this past week and one waitlisted. I don't know if I should take the tardiness of my admission decision as a good sign or not.
  16. Yes, they're both on "Ready for Review"
  17. My status says "Applications Processed and Under Review". I think I'll wait it out a little bit more. Is it normal that they take about 4 months to make their decisions?
  18. Have anyone heard back from the Epi Department at McGill?? According to this website, there are a couple of people who got rejected last week. I haven't heard from them yet and I'm starting to worry. I don't know if I'm in the not accepted/not rejected state is good or not. Do they email acceptances or rejections first?. Anyone else on the same boat?
