Hi sys88, why did you choose OHSU over UC Denver ?

Hi Persimmony, I also have offers at UC Irvine and Anschutz BSP. Whats your top choice and what was your opinion of the programs ?

UC Irvine CMB Acceptance! She was just waiting for graduate school approval.

Unusually long compared to last year. Next interview weekend starts tomorrow. I emailed the admin - i'll post what she says.

If you find out let me know! I see there is an interview invite in results on the 14th Jan. I assume they are just waiting for interview declines and going down the list - so not much hope I think....

UC Irvine CMB is sending out a second wave of invites next week - email from program admin

"GRE scores shouldn't be that important" - unfortunately the facts indicate they are important. Just look at the gradcafe results search database and also the GPA/GRE combination of people with offers in this thread - if you have a high GPA/GRE and research experience you will get an interview. If you don't then its a crapshoot - your best shot is to apply to as many mid and low tier schools and hope someone likes your app. The alternate and best way to reduce the "hope element" is to create a relationship with PIs at these mid and low tier schools and then you have a much better shot of getting an interview/offer.

I have a CSD interview. Kenton told me they invited 12 when he offered me the interview. I've heard they recruit 4 so likely to have at least 6 offers. Not sure if all the interviews have gone out. You should email Kenton about your particular situation. My experience is that most program admins are very friendly and there is no reason not to ask politely. You can apply to more then one program at Anschutz. I also applied and got the interview at BSP. If you don't get in this year then you should maximize your chances by applying to multiple programs in your top choices (if they allow it).

Biotechie, I CAN check whether the references have been submitted and they have been completed, but I cannot check receipt of GRE/transcripts. I will email them if I cannot get an answer here. Are you attending BCM ? I have submitted an application to the BCM Developmental Bio program and it is one of my top choices with the great labs focusing on developmental neurobiology. I have done two years of research as an undergrad and have one middle author submitted paper and multiple poster presentations including one at SfN 2013. Hopefully, I get in somewhere since I love the process of discovery and am fascinated by the growth of an organism from a single cell.

In my Harvard submitted GSAS application, there appears to be no way to check if they received GRE scores/transcripts. Anyone submitted their app and have the same problem ? Note that I can check if the refrences have been submitted.

I am hearing PI funding cuts of 20% or more even in well reputed labs such as at Princeton. Will the number of Ph.D positions be cut next year ? Were they effected this year ?
