  1. I'm not a native speaker either and IMO Greek/Latin roots help native speakers only (who have studied these subjects as 2nd/3rd language in school) Use Kaplan Verbal workbook, I liked it very much because it explains all answers in detail (not only why A is correct but also why B, C, D are wrong) this thought process trains u well for multiple answer correct part. If you are having trouble with sentence equivalence and blanks I suggest that first build a vocabulary of top 300 GRE words (from Kaplan or new Barron's) then solve these questions WITHOUT looking at options. Make up a word in ur mind which u think is correct after reading the sentence. Then go through options and look for words similar in meaning to the word which u picked up in mind. Works every time for me.
  2. Hey guys, Anyone planning to stay at the ihouse? I have been offered a spot but I am still wondering whether $13,535/year (with meals) is worth it. Exactly how much more expensive it is compared to off-campus housing? Can anyone staying there guide me about expenses, are there any hidden costs? How much noise is generated by construction activity? Which floor/rooms are the quietest? If there are no red flags any idea which rooms have a Bay view? I can choose accordingly
  3. [lullaby1] Definitely possible. Provided you keep your calm in the test, especially when it comes to multiple answer correct questions. Revise basics thoroughly from the ETS Powerprep book and familiarize yourself with typical question types while preparing.
  4. @Yetanotherdegree Don't go by rules set by others. Time required for prep depends upon ur background, speed, aptitude everything. E.g. If you're an engineer/mathematician quant will be a breeze. Best approach to optimize prep is first cursorily going through theory and taking a mock test, it will tell you exactly what and how much u need to study. In my first mock I got ~166 quant, ~148 verbal so I devoted my entire available time (1.5 months) to verbal. Targeted prep based on strong and weak point will help more than random problem solving, and only way to know SWOT is taking a mock..
  5. Hi guys! My UC Berkeley M.Eng (IEOR) application was "recommended" by faculty 3 weeks ago but I haven't received formal admission packet yet. Got invited for "admitted student's visit day" as well. Anyone sailing in the same boat? The email also said that I need to fill a form by Apr 15th. Admissions office is not responding to emails and phone call goes to voice-mail. This is freaking me out a bit. Please share your UCB experiences. P.S. Good luck to everyone waiting for their admits and congrats to those who already made it to their respective dream schools!
