  1. Any thoughts on why some schools take a while to send rejections? It's been a couple days since the first Harvard's acceptance/waitlist and I have heard nothing. I know that I'm almost likely rejected, but I think an official rejection wouldn't hurt since many of us (especially international students) have to deal with deadlines that don't exactly match the April 15th cycle.
  2. Rejected from Cornell.
  3. Can someone claim the UConn acceptance posted yesterday?
  4. Just got a rejection from MIT.
  5. Really expecting to hear good news from UConn today, but I'm not very confident. With presumed rejections from Harvard, MIT and Cornell, my last hope for a direct acceptance in the US is UConn. I'm far away on the waitlist for Miami, so UPenn is my only shot by now. If anyone intends to decline an offer there, please let me know!
  6. Have you been notified of your Harvard rejection (reported on your signature)? Or is it assumed?
  7. Hoping that there are more MIT offers to come today...
  8. Well, the previous posts reporting acceptances are now deleted.
  9. I saw that too. If the previous reports are true, then NYU indeed released earlier than they have in past years. On that basis, we would have reasons to suspect of the legitimacy of the reports. However, Ian has been in contact with someone who seems to have been admitted there, so I don't really know what is going on. The deleted post suggested that it was from someone inside the department (it made use of the pronoun "we''). I searched for some info on their website, but couldn't find anything. Perhaps those who have applied there might be in a better position to speculate.
  10. Thanks! I'll let you know if I heard any news too. Hopefully we will get offers soon.
  11. Judging from the results posted, it seems like these numbers are sensitive to waitlisted candidates who get latter offers. There were three acceptances initially posted and then waitlists started to appear. But it is really hard to say, given that not everyone uses GC and I've also heard that many departments make more initial offers aiming at a smaller class.
  12. All that I know is that the list is divided by areas. So if someone of your area of interest gives up, you're most likely to be on the list for that spot. I'm not sure about the probability of the getting an offer from the waitlist, but Penn's website says that they usually make 11 to 15 offers aiming for a class of 5 or 6 students. If those 15 students include those on the waitlist, then you might expect the list to be short.
  13. Congrats! Are you coming from an MA or straight out of undergraduate?
  14. Anyone expecting to hear from MIT too? I was confident that we would have some news yesterday since they've been quite consistent in the past years.
  15. Congrats to everyone who got in UNC! I wish I had applied there, but for a couple of reasons I couldn't. Anyway, I've heard good things about the program, it seems like a great place!
  16. It doesn't seem to me to be a fake either. I can't see why someone would post that out of nothing. Anyway, as overoverover mentioned, it's a significant break on the pattern of past years, and If I recall correctly, someone posted a fake NYU acceptance last year, so it's really hard to know. On a related matter, over makes a good point about the changing in the DGS being a reasonable factor to account for this early acceptance. Wouldn't it be a good thing to make a list of DGSs for each season (maybe starting with this season)? That way, future applicants can use that as a predictive factor when drawing out new predictions or accounting for possible anomalies in releases dates.
  17. No news on the Harvard acceptance yet?
  18. Did you ask how many were on the waitlist? I also asked about ranks, but forgot to ask about the number of people on the list.
  19. Reporting a UPenn wait-list notification. No info on ranks, but from the e-mail I received, it seems like it's divided between areas of interest.
  20. Just received an e-mail from Michael Weisberg (UPenn). It turns out that I am on the wait-list there. From what I can gather, they've sent out admissions offers too.
  21. Congrats everyone! Is it reasonable to expect acceptances to go out on a saturday? I was really expecting to hear from at least one of my schools by today.
  22. I've been wait-listed at Miami, but haven't been informed of any rankings yet. Anyway, I've been told that my application was very strong and that they would love to offer me a place should a spot become availabe. Not sure whether this is a standard e-mail sent to all applicants, but right now I feel positive about my prospects there. I'm also expecting to hear from UPenn and UConn in the next days. UPenn is a great fit for me, but I'm affraid that my weak GREs and pedigree might have a significant negative effect on my overall prospects (as I suspect they did in Miami).
  23. Congrats!
  24. Thank you!
  25. Posting in the right thread now: Just been notified that I am in the wait-list for Miami. I was expecting a rejection by this time since the first acceptances were sent a week ago, so this is pretty good news!
