  1. I'm going to AAG. I think. I don't have plane tickets or a hotel yet...
  2. Meh, the teaching requirement is pretty slack at Princeton.
  3. You wouldn't have to. There's fieldwork and writing elsewhere to save you...
  4. cakes, don't be negative. p.s. stop cyber-stalking me!
  5. 100% agreement here. Last year when I applied I made sure I had a backup plan I would love. Now sometimes I wonder if I wouldn't be happier doing that than I am in grad school (note: everyone has bad school days).
  6. 680 is definitely good on the verbal. I got a 610 on verbal and that was like 87th percentile. Very few people ace the verbal as quant scores are normally higher than verbal scores on the GRE.
  7. I thought the year was listed with the results?
  8. I think you'll be fine. I'd guess somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of the schools you've applied to will accept you. You have a high GPA and your GRE scores are pretty good. Good luck!
  9. I think I may've accidentally deleted one of your posts a while back. Sorry about that!
  10. welcome and good luck!! try not to kill yourself while waiting
  11. I definitely think you should retake the GRE.
  12. I'm still around!!
  13. I'm still around, I check about once a week. It's a bit harder since October seems to be the month of killing first years in my program.
  14. Wait, you're applying again in a year yin? That seems like so little time...
  15. Schools in the South always start earlier than schools up north. I hadn't attended school in August since high school. My undergrad starts classes on the second Thursday of September... then again, I will also get out the first week of May...
  16. So I did a summer program for incoming graduate students meaning I've been at UGA on and off all summer. I signed my fall lease on Saturday and it starts Tuesday though I'm gonna look for furniture on Thursday when my mom gets here and start moving in then. First day of orientation is August 10. Eek!
  17. Hmmm... I really enjoy Rincewind and Death (and his daughter) immensely. I should find new authors to read I think but I have no idea where to look right now...
  18. What do you mean starting? How are you so late to the Pratchett and Orwell party?? Okay, how far are you into the Pratchett? I'm all over the place because I started reading them semi out of order, tried to fix it, then resorted to just reading them whenever they were available at the local public library. Currently reading Guards, Guards, if I ever finish this required summer reading. P.S. I went with Pimsleur's Swahili CDs, mainly because the public library had them available. It's been a good review because it's helping me recall latent Swahili and, since the language is completely phonetic, I'lll have no problem transferring what I've learned so far to paper. Though it's designed for people traveling so not all of the content is useful...
  19. I have kept my residency at my mom's and will continue to do so while in graduate school. Mostly because I have a tuition waiver and they don't care whether I'm in-state or out-of-state. I'd do whatever is simpler. I'm in an MA program so I figured why change for 2 years if I didn't change for the 4 years of undergrad.
  20. Sorry, I was on a hiatus. All the offending posts have been deleted. And next time if that happens, could someone send me a PM and jolt me out of my dreamstate? Thanks. I'd love to read some quality historical fiction. Instead I've been reading, The Colonial Present by Derek Gregory, a geographer.
  21. Hi all, sorry for my absence and for taking so long to delete those spam postings. They're gone now, btw. UGA is great. As far as rankings, new ones should be coming out soon. I don't know if AAG ranks programs or not. I've been doing some fascinating summer reading. (I'm in love with Derek Gregory now!). Bye for now! P.S. Sonny, I'm a female.
  22. Andrew, so sorry to hear about your setback. Good luck with getting better and the 07 applications. I'm already at UGA, doing a summer program offered by the Graduate School. The good news is that by coming early I've gotten a great carrel.
  23. This was me as a child and may explain where I am now.
  24. This is so true that it's ridiculous. Prepare to be cold indoors.
  25. Any ideas of how to study a language on your own? (A modern one) Are there good CD/book resources that anyone would recommend? Particularly for French or Swahili...
