  1. I am a recent graduate and UConn offers AWESOME financial aid. They pretty much paid for my entire program with grants ($14,000 grant the first year, $12,000 the second). Make sure you turn in the School of Social Work financial aid application as early as possible! They also offer scholarships that you can write essays for each year - I won two scholarships for $1200 each, both years. This school definitely gives out great aid if you qualify - in my case, I was working full-time and making about 40k through grad school and still qualified for the larger grants. Good luck!
  2. Thanks! I was beginning to lose faith. My registration date is June 6th, very exciting!
  3. Found out this morning via e-mail...I'm in!! With a concentration in casework I'm SO relieved!
  4. Incase anyone was wondering, I still have not heard anything. I called today and they gave me some speech about "making final decisions soon." It's almost June.
  5. Hi duchess, I'm not sure what your price range is for apartments, but I actually live in a 4-family colonial and one of the tenants is moving out so there will be a 1-bedroom below my apartment open soon. My roommate is a PhD student at Uconn Storrs, and I will be at SCSU or Uconn (if Uconn ever makes a decision). The apartment is in Vernon, which is about a 20/25 minute drive from campus and 2 exits from a major mall/shopping area. Otherwise, I'd look in West Hartford - it's a really lovely town with a wonderful town center (google "Blueback Square")...but it can be on the expensive side. Be careful about anything on the Hartford/West Hartford line...it gets sketchy.
  6. How am I the only one still in review? This is so frustrating. Congrats to those who got in though!!
  7. And so another week passes...
  8. Just out of curiosity, how much is the tuition deposit? $200?
  9. I've gotten the "we are not longer giving out application status' over the phone" answer before too. I think it depends on when you call. I usually wait a few hours, call back, and then get an update. I scoff at the idea of getting a response mere days before orientation. Although I would rather be a part of orientation than not get in...additionally, I work for a hospital system that I'm hoping to use as my first field placement. Spots for the field placement within the hospital system are competitive, so the longer I wait the worse my chances are of getting in. So incredibly frustrating.
  10. Don't worry, I called again on Friday. At this point I have no shame. I was told on Friday Im still in review, and that "they hoped" to email it out next week. So you're not alone.
  11. I just called again today...my application is STILL with the review committee and there is "no timeline" on when it will be back. Awesome.
  12. Waiting is so frustrating! Best of luck to you too, Stacy. I'm sure we will both know by the end of next week! I'm just surprised that they are waiting this late in the application cycle to inform applicants, I'm sure if we do get in we'll have to do orientation, figure out our fall internship placements, etc...stressful to think about! Not to mention I've already been accepted into the program at Southern and they are on my back to register for classes!
  13. I think most decisions are in. I called today and asked if they had a timeline on when they would be informing applicats of the decisions. She put me on hold and in the background I heard her say, "I have so much work to do! I have to enter all of these decisions and send letters out to advisors." She then came back and told me that my application was on the director's desk and that the director is at a conference so I won't hear until NEXT week...just awful. I'm also assuming that means I'm on the cusp of being accepted/rejected, because not everyone's application makes their way to the director's desk. I regret even calling!
  14. Hi there, I applied to both Uconn and Southern's MSW program. I actually went to Southern for a M.S. in Special Education before deciding that social work would be a better fit, so I've had some experience navigating their graduate school. I'm really impressed by Southern's more personal feel, but then again...I've never gone to Uconn. I've heard great things about both programs from multiple sources. I think it just depends on your own personal needs! I was accepted into Southern's MSW program in early March. I'm still waiting to hear from Uconn. Best of luck!
