  1. 1. journalism 2 5 years of experience doing internships, and working on journalism projects
  2. Has anyone know something about the admission process in UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. I heard the admitted have been already informed. Tomorrow all the rejections are going to be sent by email.
  3. Have Anyone been notified? Does anyone know when is the final day for receiving an answer?
  4. What happens if they call you and you don't answer or your phone is turned off? Do they try to call you eventually or do they send you an email?
  5. Grades are not important as far as you reach a minimum GPA. What´s really important is your essay, work samples and resume. Schools do not have to validate how another school(your undergraduate institution) grade you. Their standards are not the same ones as those of the grad school you are applying. If you are good show them that through your writing and experiences. Grades are not important even thou school do not say that explicitly.
  6. Just found this in the admission thread: Guys, Not because we have not been notified about our admission does not mean that other haven't. Even though the tend to reject students the same day, acceptance are notified sporadically. Typically, applicants with strong background and application tend to be notified earlier. So I think, the school is already accepting students. Those who have not been notified yet still stand by. By mid Feb, those who never received an admission phone call, are the one who are going to be rejected by mail with an already designed template.
  7. Has anyone been already admitted or rejected. I still waiting. In the past years they have admitted student by the third, fourth and fifth of February.
  8. Who has been admitted or rejected from the Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism?
  9. I would like to know what kind of questions are made in the Berkeley admission interview. Any hint or advise will be appreciated.
  10. Loric, what i tried to mean with resonant, is to be saying the same over and over again without meaning it(e.g. the politicians speeches). Maybe the word is not appropriate in this context. I misused the world, since it is a latin descendant word and thus I thought about its latin original usage(I am a spanish and portuguese native speaker). Returning to the issue, i have to say that i did not make a vague research of my programs. Nevertheless, i have to admit that some of the professors and programs particularities I cited, I just did it because of following the ´formula´ in order to increase my chances. The thing is that I was not interested in any professor. I just was interested in the program as a whole. But my undergraduate adviser, told me that i should mention a professor because that something applicants "must" do.
  11. It is said that you should mention professor and programs particularities in your statement of purpose in order to increase your chances of being accepted. But, aren´t the admission committee members tired of reading it, once and once again? Can they tell that what you state is not genuine? Can a Statement of Purpose seems to be hollow and resonant because, although you did a great SOP, It looks like you just followed the "Formula"? I am asking this because, maybe they are not interested in that kind of information since they know that students can simply make a vague research of the program and to mention some of their centers, professor, facilities, etc.
  12. I get a mediocre score on my GRE. V-144 Q-140. I am applying to the NYU journalism joint Program with Latin American Studies. Viewing my GRE scores: should I hesitate from applying to NYU? The school says that the mean score of admitted students is above 160 (84 percentile, and I am 24 percentile). Nevertheless my low scores, I am a really strong candidate. I have a strong Statement of Purpose, Really good recommendation letters, neat writing sample, GPA3.66, and an extensive resume on which is included that i found an online newspaper, that was worldwide recognized and awarded in international festivals. Should I apply or not? What are my chances? I do not think I can get a higher score, since i have never been good at standardized tests. NEVER.
  13. Dont quit. I get a 144/140 in verbal and quant respectively and I, still, will apply. GRE scores do not determine your acceptance. If could prove, within your application package, that you are a strong candidate, GRE scores will not affect the admission committee decision. In my case, for example, I have never been good at standardized tests. Not all people can work under the same circumstances(i.e time pressure). And not being good at standardized does not mean that you are a weak prospective student. to fit, experiences, knowledge, being passionate, impressive work samples, and strong Statement of Purpose worth more than a simple test that just value how can you reason under a finite number of answer in the conditions that are presupposed by taking the test. Standardized test scores does not aim to a level of knowledge, skills, nor intelligence. Professor on admission committee knows that. So, do not hesitate from applying.
