  1. I would agree with hj2012. It really depends upon WHERE you are applying. It may be an issue in a top 10. But honestly, the whole thing is about how you fit in with the faculty and philosophy of the department. You could have a 4.0 and perfect GRE, but if no one there is interested in your research topics, then you are a no-go.
  2. Well... here we go again. The past year, I only applied for a couple spots, and I made many mistakes. Trying to build up steam for this round, and I am joining this group EARLY so that I work hard over the summer. Let's do this.
  3. Anyone else have programs who sent no response emails at all? UC Riverside has made zero contact. I only found out about decisions through the GradCafe's results page and so I checked my application status. That was weeks ago and they have still sent no official email or letter. Makes me feel like I fell through the cracks and I regret the application fee. Am I being too sensitive or have other people encountered similar?
  4. Well... I'm officially out of the PhD game for 2014. No acceptances, unfortunately. I hope that everyone else gets in, but if not, I will see you on the 2015 version of this forum! Onward and upward.
  5. Ok USC... what's the hold up? Just tell me you don't want me already. Anyone heard from Rossier?
  6. Didn't apply to UT, but in general, I avoid that question. Could be unreasonable paranoia, but what does it matter? It should have zero effect. I have a feeling they just want to know what students compare their program to. When it comes to the funding questions, I always lowball it and assume things will be more expensive than I expect. Santa Barbara's application asked for a dollar amount I could contribute and I thought that was SUPER weird and I was uncomfortable. That was the only application of mine with that specficity.
  7. The email says before the end of March, but looking at results trends from the past, it could be sooner. Just another waiting game. But they will definitely notify before the April deadline.
  8. Ah, commiserating together! Though your signature says you have three acceptances, so you can't be hurting too much! Congrats! Thanks for your info - I saw today that it was a one year MA and I'm actually really intrigued by that. I could be broke by the bay for one year
  9. Yup. On the application, I said I would be willing. Got the same message as HigherEdPhDApp. The MA is full-time for a year and there are probably SO many people being "considered" when you think about the PhD rejections and the normal MA applicants.
  10. Same. And I got the "considered for the Master's program" comment which opens up so many questions about acceptance rates and funding (my degree is humanities, so I might consider the MA).
  11. Same from Stanford. Sad but not surprised. I got the "being considered for the MA" message which I have to think about. Anyone know if that has funding?
  12. Thanks, Kamisha! Appreciate the details, even if they are rough to hear!
  13. Anyone claiming the USC Rossier email acceptances/rejections? I'm curious because SixSeasons was notified that notifications are solely via snail mail
  14. Wow! Did not think that Riverside English would have so much funding available since many UCs are not in good shape. Super helpful to know for the future and when giving advice. Congratulations!!
