  1. Harvard took several people from the waitlist last year. It all depends on the offers and how they go.
  2. Thanks for the nice review! Concerning international applicants, if we are strongly interested, we arrange a phone interview. Unless the international applicants are already in the US, it is impossible for us to get them into the country as quickly as we would have to to attend the open house. And since we can't arrange for visas in that time frame, it's a little unfair to only invite the applicants who are in the US, and can travel here without visa issues. That said, if you are in Boston during February or early March, and are being considered, we generally try to accomodate you for a visit. But make sure to give us plenty of notice - this time of year is extremely busy for all of us.
  3. I think that any program truly interested in you would be willing to do a telephone or Skype interview.
  4. Don't feel horrible. We actually ask what other universities you have applied to in the application here at Harvard. We like to know what our competition is for you!
  5. Honest answer? You need more math. If that means getting a masters in math, then go for it if you are really interested in the area.
  6. Definitely check websites of the schools you are interested in, and email departments. Biostat departments have contact information listed, and will reply to your questions, including questions about funding.
  7. Your profile looks good to me. I think that if you explain in your statement about the reason for the lower grades in undergrad, most admissions committees will accept that given your later grades in Math/Stats. Make sure that you get strong letters of reference. They can make or break your application.
