Hey, Do they have interviews? I haven't heard anything from them either. Does SJSU offer funding? -
Great! Congrats

Hey guys, I am just curious about what you plan to do after MA? I am doing MA so that later I can apply for more competitive Phd programs. Do you guys also have similar plans? -

You must be psyched! Congrats! Neuroscience is super exciting. Are u excited about moving to east coast? I got into SDSU, health psychology focus. My POI from San Marcos is out of country and she will interview me after 23rd March. But I guess I am going to go with SDSU. I am guessing it is better than CSU schools. Is SFSU better than SDSU? -
They are not accredited. Just google about Chicago school and you'll learn their reality.

osculations, wow this sounds great! I am still deciding about what to do with these two programs. I will PM you if I decide that I am not going through with it. Thank you hey joshw4288, I got into the same luckily. kpsych, thats really great! I too have good research experience and also 4 years of corporate experience, good extra curricular (working as a German-English translator). Although it is not relaed to Clinical Psych, I think it will help. Good luck to you with your research. I knew I needed to do MA, I dont have much choice right now. I feel apprehensive about working in lab for a year and then applying for Phd, because it may/may not improve my chances. Whereas MA will improve my chance by getting even better LORs and taking some advance classes. Thank you all for replying. Reading replies making me feel a little more confident. I guess I need to take whats given to me right now and I know its best. This school is the best research fit for me and the advisor is amazing prof, very personable and friendly. Thank you guys.

Thank you Mr. Bugle. This makes me feel lot better. Hi PsychGirl1, sorry may be I wasn't clear before. I got into 2 years experimental program. I said I have one year to improve my chances because- I'll join for Fall 2014 and I will have to start preparing for Phd applications by 2015 August/Sept. But I have been offered an RA job at this school where they follow mentorship model wherein all students are immediately given mentors who let them work in their labs. I do not know if this happens in all schools. Thanks both of you for replying.

I am freaking out! Please help! Ok, I did not know this fabulous site 6 months ago when I planned on applying for experimental psychology MA programs and started working toward it. I didn't ask too many people about it and I asked about MA programs to MA students only [huge sampling error ]. Now I have couple of offers in hand and now I have done some research about Phd. Earlier I thought I stood no chance at Phd admission, in spite of having a good GPA (3.81). Unfortunately I don't have any publications on my name. So this triggered me to apply for MA programs in order to get some publications and know about my research options. Now I have this amazing MA research offer where I will be working on Health Psychology research. Only yesterday it hit me that I will only have one year to improve my chances for Phd programs. By next August, I will have to start with Phd applications. Will one year be enough to get some solid research experience, to publish a paper or give a presentation?? Am I kidding myself here?? Am I just wasting money here?? I am so confused right now. Looking at results section, I know that I dont stand chance of Phd right now. I have good GPA and good recommendation letters but that was not going be enough. Now I am very confused. Should I go ahead with MA? Has anyone here done experimental MA psychology and then successfully gotten into Phd programs? Will it help? My top choice program has accepted me and I am going to be working on physical/mental health research which means I am going to be applying for clinical Phd after 1 year. Clinical Psychology is super competitive and now I am scared! Please help me. Please tell me that somebody here has gone through my route and has gotten into Phd program. P.S.- one of my POI told me when I was interviewing with her that getting a masters degree will not ensure PhD clinical admission. She said - in fact very few of candidates get in. I know she was pointing out reality but now I am scared. I am also expecting to hear back from one of the programs where I have applied for Developmental Psych MA. Is developmental Psych less competitive than Clinical? Is developmenta Phd easier to get in that clinical? Should I just give up on this clinical program (which I love) and hope to get into developmental program?? Sorry, I know I have written too much here But I am so worried now. Thanks in adavnce and good luck to all of you.

Hey guys, Has anyone here transferred their visa from H4 to F1? I am thinking of transferring my visa here in USA and then going to my home country and get my passport stamped. Has anyone here done that? Sorry, if this has been already discussed. Please share any information you might have on this topic. Thank you! Best of luck to all with their admissions/work.

The I applied to Masters programs 2014 thread.

I have! Thank you so much for creating this topic!! I have applied to CSU - Long Beach, Fullerton, San Bernardino. I have also applied to SDSU and San Fransisco state university. Did you hear back from any of the schools? I am waiting desperately to hear back from SDSU. I really want to join the program. -
Yes, I would mention about the difficulties I had to face, but only in subtle manner. Donot write negatively about parental pressure. Leave them out of it. Just stress something along the lines- 'loosing roof from your head was the most challenging thing you faced and overcame, and you are ready to take on future challenges with optimisim and some other good adjectives " Make sure you write something to get them interested in you and not to gain their sympathy. Your profile should make them feel confident about selecting you and giving you a chance to follow your interest.

I did the same thing! But she called me for the interview anyway
-
This wait is killing me. I need at least one acceptance to feel a little better.
-
Noways!! Do not give up!!! You otherwise have a great profile.. Make a steller statement of purpose and make up for your poor performance in letters and GREs. Also study and take Psych GRE if you want to show that despite your poor performance, you have good knowledge base now.

Hey, I was contated by one faculty member for an interview (I had listed her as my choice of potential advisor). The interview went fine. Not great but didnt suck totally. She told me some other professors might contact me too. A week later I was contacted by other faculty of same program and we talked for about 30minutes. It was a very good interview. I am unsure why this another faculty contacted me? Does it mean the first one rejected me? Does it happen to a lot of people? I didnt ask the other prof why she contacted me because I didnt want to accidently sound rude or something. Can somebody please help me out here? Do you guys get contacted by two POIs of same program? Thanks!! By the way, I am applying for masters in experiemental Psychology

Who here is applying/applied for MA Psychology programs? When do you generally hear back from the universities? I am freaking out. I heard from none yet
-
I think you should mention it. They want to know about your background and this is a strong enough reason to mention it. It will show they that you will perhaps be more motivated than other students. Writing it in subtle manner wont hurt. May be just write about it in a line and leave it. Sometimes less is more Hope it helps.

I'm bombing my GRE every time I take it. Please help?
HermoineG replied to Just Jeff's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
Hi, I am sailing in the same boat too. I got 148Q and 149V in the first attempt and giving my second in 10 days. Although I am not aware of the schools and programs you are applying to, I know that GRE scores don't mean everything. There are other factors too. Write a kick-ass SOP. I spoke wid few of the admission coordinators and they all said that - unless GRE score is exceptionally high or terribly low - they won't affect the admission decision to a great degree. So cheer up and stay positive -
Thanks for the tips. Especially the first one
