  1. Thank you all for your replies. I have registered myself at a public library and will check out books to throw some light on this entire process. One of my friends who is attended Engineering school is helping me out too. As you all said, I think it won't hurt to send mails. So I'll start with it now. Thanks once again! Have a great day
  2. Hi, I'm an international student and I am applying for Experimental Psychology program to a number cal-state universities. I currently moved here from India. My question is - is it mandatory to email or call professors and talk before applying? I have read that it is an extremely important step for Phd admissions. Is it true for MS admissions as well? In India we never had to contact any professors in advance and I really have no idea about how to approach them in the first place? Do I call or write email? What do I mention in the email? Do I have to tell them my test scores? Can somebody please help me? Most of my friends who are studying here are enrolled for Engineering program. They never contacted their professions in advance. So I really do not have any sources for Psychology admissions. I have a fairly good academic background. I have 3.5 GPA and very good TOEFL score (English proficiency test) and good Recommendations. I do not want to lose out on my chances of getting in because I did not contact my professors. Can you guys please help me with this? Thanks!
  3. Ok. Got it. Thanks a lot!
  4. Ok! Thanks a lot Lisa!
  5. Hi awells27, Thank you for replying! I would retake GRE in mid- November. I was going back and forth about trade off between applying early or reapplying for GRE. Do you think it helps to apply early? If I retake it in mid-November, it would mean I will apply by end of November. Do you think it will affect my chances of getting in? Thank you

  9. Hi PsychGirl1 and Bren2014, Thanks a lot for replying! I think I used a wrong word! I meant question instead of doubt. I do have some research experience but I do not have any publication on my name. So it weakens my application. This is why some people have advised to me ask professors if I can do some volunteer work for them. If they like my work, I can possibly get some plus points. Do you guys think it is feasible? Do professors take in volunteers?
  10. Hey guys, I would be applying for Fall 2014. Could you please tell me when to start contacting professors and how to approach them first? Do I write my doubts in the first mail itself or should I ask them if they can solve my doubts? I am confused and this is the first time I will be attending any school in the US. So I really don't know how this works here.
