  1. Well this is the program I am going to attend and you summed it up perfectly! I couldn't have said it better myself! Ok now I am jealous that you are getting basically a full ride! Congratulations that is quite an achievement LSE is tight on the purse strings! I am still here trying to figure out how I'm going to make this happen and go to London in a few months... stress of admission season has been replaced by the stress of OMG how can I afford this! Glad we will be in the same program and to all future LSE Development Management students here is the student group on facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/599291873502624/
  2. Well make some space for me aboard the LSE train because I'm in too! I was waiting for a final scholarship decision from Sciences Po but I have been waitlisted so LSE it is!
  3. Once again congrats Angie! Can't wait to hear your FINAL decision he he he...
  4. Wow I can't believe you are turning down a fully funded program! Well I guess you are doing what is best for you, happy to know you have made a decision. I too am leaning slightly towards LSE right now but I haven't made a final decision yet. For all future LSE students this blog giving tips to new LSE students might be helpful to you, especially if you've never been to London before! http://onelse.com/
  5. I agree with everything you said except the LSE part where internationals pay way more. Actually for a lot of popular taught graduate programs overseas and EU students pay about the same, it is the case for my LSE program. It's expensive for everyone!
  6. Oh wow that's a tough position to be in, what are you going to do kitty? I'm surprised they told you that you don't really need micro and macro to get into a political ECONOMY course, to me that goes without saying! Yeah you are right about the double degree it doesn't sound positive... But you should see the bright side in this because instead of bluntly rejecting you, your profile is so strong that they would love to have you in another program. If there is any other program you would consider then let them know, if not then stick to your guns and explain the misunderstanding. I hope it works out for you. Good luck!
  7. Sorry to hear that Carefree! Just like Mych said we are all here to help if u need insight/advice/cheering up u name it! We all know how tough admission decision time is, so we are all in this together!
  8. Did anyone from the IHEID rejection fiasco get this lame apology email: Let me express my deep regret as director of the Graduate Institute for the unfortunate incident that occurred on Friday. This mistake should not have happened and I feel very sorry that it caused you and your relatives to have such an emotionally disturbing experience. Thank you for your understanding and my very best wishes for your future endeavours. Yours sincerely, Philippe Burrin
  9. LMAO ok this random analogy cracked me up... hilarious! Thanks for the laugh kitty god knows we need to lighten up a bit!
  10. Yes I've been taking immigration rules into consideration and boy! I thought the US was complicated and here I am reading about UK student visa rules and it is daunting... I mean taking on loans and such to afford tuition and not even being given the chance to work a year or two before being asked to leave really sucks! If a great professional opportunity comes knocking, you want to have the possibility to take the job or else why pay through the roof for a top tier school?! I now have to look closely into French student visa laws..... It used to be that the more qualified and educated you were, the more international mobility you had. How things have changed...
  11. For all non EU students considering studying in the UK I came across this interesting but quite scary article about working post graduation: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/sarah-pilchick/new-visa-rules-hurt-forei_b_1838560.html
  12. First off sorry Mickun Oriole and swissfrog about your rejections. I'm quite shocked you all got rejected to be honest. I really thought still being under consideration meat you still had a chance. Oriole thank you so much for all this info about LSE! Now that most decisions are in weighing pros and cons will be the next phase! Glad to see ur friends have a balanced opinion it'it's not all hate everything about the school or vice versa.
  13. Oh man sorry Mych! I hope it was not your top choice! At least you know you are not the only one we're all in this together!
  14. Thank you mickun! And thank you to all those I've been talking to from early on in this thread and our one and only OP Angie for creating a thread where we all found each other! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this thread and I hope next year's students will come and read this and see that we have been through everything together: the ups, the downs, the rejection, the anxiety and of course the joys! I guess maybe because I have all you guys and I know I'm not just alone in this agonizing process... it makes everything easier! Mickun, my guess is also that they are looking for more recent graduates for the Mdev, it is after all a 2 yr program which is a long time for someone like me who has been working already for several years. But one can speculate all day for the reasons of rejection! I too have weaknesses in my background so who knows... But my impression was that it was not as selective as Sciences Po or LSE. It seems like they did try to keep the size of interdisciplinary programs to a reasonable amount this year. I'm sure those still under consideration have a good chance of being accepted! I can't wait till next week until Mych, Mickun and everyone else still waiting gets their decisions and we can start weighing pros and cons by program!
  15. Thanks Mych! Well thankfully I have great options so the blow is not that hard on me! Don't get me wrong it's always disappointing to get rejected but I'm going to have huge slices of cake tomorrow ha ha ha I'm not sure yet what I will pick I'm waiting for a scholarship decision from Sciences Po and I will go from there! You know I just wish they had put me out of my misery sooner! It's not the rejection that was most painful it's the endless waiting
  16. My my I did not know I would wake up to such drama! All I have to say is WOW that is crazy!! I just spent 20 min reading all previous posts! I'm so glad I was sleeping and when I woke up I got the 'you have been admitted' email I didn't even have time to be excited because then I saw the 'just kidding you are refused' email! Who does that? I'm so sorry for all refused candidates, but I for one am relieved this ordeal with IHEID is over... I was losing sleep over finding out and truly no school is worth that much anguish! For those of you still under consideration, hang in there and good luck next week!!
  17. Welcome! Man, you guys come up with the coolest nicknames... makes me want to start over and create a new one, HA! Yep you are not the only out freaking out that's for sure! My worst case scenario is not even rejection... it's the waiting list! Having to wait until April means I'm taking another school's offer. I'm not going to put myself through this for another month! ¡No puedo!
  18. Do you guys think it would be bad to email admissions to ask if we will really be notified on friday? Or will some be left over for next week? I've been patiently waiting for 2 weeks now and I'm reaching my limit! Due to the time difference, I wake up everyday to 'under consideration' I think if i see that tomorrow I might toss my tablet against the wall, so I'd rather be prepared...
  19. Ok I'm at work and this post made me LOL for reals! If I'm rejected I'm going to my favorite bakery and I'm eating 2 huge slices of chocolate cake and red velvet cake in one sitting!
  20. LOL you know what... I just don't want to be posting here tomorrow saying MONDAY for sure IS THE DAY! lol If that happens I think I will blast them with emails ha ha ha
  21. Welcome swissfroggy (I like the name!) and natashakent! We're always glad to see new people posting! Please stick around and share your anxiety, fears, good and (hopefully no) bad news with the rest of us!
  22. It's a good idea but I feel it's a bit too early to do kind of a post mortem on this thread when so many people (me included) are still on pins and needles waiting for a decision! Let's wait until regular posters all have their decisions and start making a choice and THEN we can reflect on our backgrounds. I for one cannot think of anything else at the moment but how to refresh the status page faster lol
  23. I like how you think Mickun! It is my (wishful thinking) suspicion as well. At least it was what I experienced with LSE I had applied way before a lot of Dev Management candidates and they started receiving their offers. I was at a loss but then someone reminded me that rejections especially at LSE are quick they do not waste time notifying candidates who are rejected. Most likely I was being considered for a scholarship and that was taking extra time. And what do you know a few weeks after I received an offer with financial aid. Ok I know it doesn't always happen like this... BUT the lady did say they do not have a particular order they are processing applicants. So let's keep hope alive one more day. However if my status does not change on Friday... I will lose it!
  24. Excellent question dpgu800! I'm curious to get an answer to this from anyone with first hand experience
  25. Congratulations Angie! At least the long wait for decisions has ended and you will be able to start weighting your options!
