  1. Keep in mind that what I said was about your statement, not your work! Your experience is obviously an important part of what you are doing. I agree with Kwonberry that things start to get interesting when you start to talk about being "completely obsessed."
  2. I did. They are going to put it online at some point, but if there's something specific you want to know before then ask away!
  3. IMO this is still pretty vague. It leaves me wondering why I should care. What does any of this have to do with anyone outside of yourself? Please don't misunderstand, I am not trying to be dismissive, I just think that your statement needs to indicate a concrete engagement with something external to your own experience. Also missing is evidence of an awareness of contemporary painting.
  4. No experience here, but you might look into Cranbrook http://www.cranbrookart.edu/. Their 2D (design) program looks pretty interesting. Their website says that "rent in the Cranbrook area is about average for the United States"—whatever that means. Tuition is high, but it sounds like need based awards are given when they have the funds to do so.
  5. Tincanevening, I think that agrobaby gave excellent advice about spending time writing (and re-writing) about your work. I understand that for the sake of the forum you are being brief by saying: "I have been dealing mostly with spacial relationships, and I'm just now getting around to using experimental materials, pushing the idea of painting, and considering a more contemporary approach" but you'll need to be more specific about what 'pushing the idea of painting, and considering a more contemporary approach' means to you, and whatever else about painting is important to you.
  6. SAIC has a new low-residency program starting Summer 2014. They are doing an webinar info session today at 6:30 (CST) for anyone interested. ww.saic.edu/academics/graduatedegrees/lowresmfa/
  7. douchamp - No particular mention of a 15 page thesis requirement on the website. It just says "a statement by the artist" "In addition to the completion of the required coursework, each degree is awarded on the basis of the quality of the student's work as demonstrated in the exhibition which is part of the comprehensive examination. The examination includes a formal exhibition and faculty review, in addition to the submission of a curriculum vitae, documentation of artwork, and a statement by the artist. The document becomes the property of and is retained by the University." Here: http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/gasaa/pgmrq/art.asp Definitely a question to ask directly.
  8. Great info douchamp and agrobaby, thanks! Here's that Brooklyn Rail article on Bard. http://www.brooklynrail.org/2012/12/art/figuring-it-out-bards-low-residency-mfa-program
  9. 2013 was for the round of applicants starting their programs this fall. We're fall 2014. No difference noted between new genre and interdisciplinary from the show, but it is something I will be looking into when I visit.
  10. I'm planning to visit calarts, ucsd, and ucla in the fall so I can give a mini report then. I did a quick visit to ucla this spring during the mfa #4 grad show and talked to one student from ceramics and one from new genres. They seemed to have only great things to say about the program and the faculty. Can we bring the rest of this discussion over to the new thread so it will be easy for others who come later to find?
  11. I'm starting the new thread for the next round of applications. There seems to be enough activity on last year's to warrant it. Best of luck everyone!
  12. Check out Calarts
