RE: Columbia interivews
Interviews are going on, mine is last week in March and I think I'm the last group. I couldn't make any of the dates due to other interviews, so they are kind of sqeezing me in.

Source: grad students at interviews. They only invite those they intend to accept. There are always one I two who eliminate themselves for various reasons.

AxyC, did they let you know you were accepted? I know some schools literally tell you that you are accepted if you go to the open house. They use the interview weekend to gauge students' interests and then let them know if they are in.
Also, about how many other students attended your open house? I am just nervous if I may get rejected.. I keep hearing that if you have an interview you have a high chance of being admitted, but I am kind of worried.
I was told that formal offers/rejects to interviewed candidates will come out mid March, but as AxyC says, you will have a pretty good idea if you have a shot at an offer after your inteviews. They are very collaborative in nature. For me, I only had three interviews and two were not a fit for my research, although they were excellent conversations. So I only have one option for a possible offer. Also, each person I met with told me how many people they had funding for 1,2, 4 etc... If their lab is not a fit for your research then you really do not want to go there anyway, so don't sweat it.
The area was better than I expected and I really liked the people and the collaborative nature of the program. Good luck!

I had my first Stanford interview yesterday! It went well, I think. She grilled me on my research and then had me do a thought experiment with her. I'd like to think I gave the interviewer educated answers haha. I guess I'll find out later!!
I haven't heard from my other 3 professors yet, but this one was the person that I consider my person of interest I'm guessing they're just really busy right now because the visit is this week.
And.. can't wait! Two days until Penn!
One down!
Can't wait to get through my first one! I feel unprepared.

Hi,
Who here is interviewing at Penn and Stanford next week? Have you gotten your final list of faculty you are interviewing with yet?
And how are you dealing with the conflicts??
Thanks!
I'm interviewing at Penn and haven't received my faculty list yet.

Since this is my main question at this point, I thought it would be a good idea if everyone to add any information they obtain from the interviews for future interviewees.

Trying not to think about it until I get (hopefully) a few offers.

I contacted Vtech. They said they are making decisions and they expect to contact us by end of March or early april :| ... Rutgers has the same reputation..
We need to initiate study and sample graduate students for their blood and do all the stress marker profile. I'm positive that the stress levels will be very high till april.
Wow that is so late, considering you have to reply to any other offers you have by 4/15... I like their program, but will definitely be making my decision before early April.

Do any of you guys know how funding works for the MS-to-PhD program at Columbia? I'm assuming the PhD part is fully funded, but I'm concerned that the MS part won't. Anyone have any idea?
Thanks
My assumption is that the Masters would not be funded, but I'm sure a Columbia will clarify that at the interview. Good luck!

Yup I'm American!

I don't know what to do right now!
MIT interview is during the first weekend, and Gtech (admit recruitment) is during the second.
Whyyy do they schedule things like this
I'm taking the second weekend as I actually have nothing that weekend. Talk to Gtech, they may have an alternative, I did that with Rice and they were great about it. You MUST go to the JHU interview, no question.

Looks like Virginia Tech has started...
Saw that, but it's weird because the website says we will be notified by Postal mail. I'm giving it some more time. Good luck!
-
congrats!!! Which weekend are you going to? Maybe see you at Penn?
Thanks! I'm going on Feb 20-22nd.

Same here, one was great about it and one was kinda weird about it.

That's what I figured too. Maybe tomorrow.

Will asking for an alternate interview date hurt my chances of acceptance? They all seem to be the same weekend!
-
It's the same weekend as MIT so I have to try to reschedule.

The last interviews are scheduled for next Thursday, so they may be waiting to do most of their acceptances until after they talk to everyone. Good luck !
