My top choice is my top choice because its only one year (masters programs are expensive!) flexible (no required courses, just 8 total in my field of study) allows me to study two languages at the same time no thesis requirement the downside is that (I'm doing regional studies) they don't have a huge selection in the region I primarily want to study, so I have to do two regions. but that's okay since they are very closely linked!

Bland recommendation letters?
MastersHoping replied to MastersHoping's topic in Letters of Recommendation
I'm sure there are plenty of people at my school doing great research. The only thing is, I'm applying to terminal masters programs and not really interested in doing research. Does the same still apply? -
^ me too... lol literally the same three
-
^Did you get in? If so, congrats! Berkeley is no joke

Hello, How detrimental would it be to have a couple of relatively bland recommendation letters? Out of my three recs, only one knows me super well, another fairly well, but the third one I barely knew him for half a quarter before I asked for a rec since I was in his class last quarter. There was just no other professor or instructor I formed any relationship with for a good rec.

tortallknight: Gahhh good luck! UCLA just might be my second choice (after Yale ) I grew up in the cold weather, and to have LA weather for a year, that'd be pretty nice though I'm kinda wishing I applied to U-W, just so I could've heard back by now
-
I wonder whether UCLA will release its Masters decisions soon as well?
-
For the masters programs at those schools, they generally start trickling in around mid to late February up until mid March. I imagine that PhDs admit sooner. Check the results page to see when people have received notifications in previous years.

Hey, would anyone be interested in reading my Statement of Purpose for my first-choice grad school and tell me what they think? I mean, it's too late now to change it but some reassurance if it's well written would be nice, or helpful critique to improve for the next time would be just fine as well.

Just heard back from SUNY Binghamton, and it's a go! They were my safety but it's definitely nice to hear back from somewhere. Pretty excited and can't wait to see what other results there will be this month and next!
-
Sorry to hear that steelkokoro! And no, I have yet to hear. Berkeley is probably the earliest one. Last year UCLA released admissions on Feb. 20th, and Yale usually gives decisions out around the second week of March. I'm getting nervouser and nervouser (not a word I know arghh) by the day!
-
I just got denied today, but planning to apply again next year MUAHAHAHA.
-
So far, I've asked a few UChicago students how they did, and seems like UChicago is getting owned this year. None of the people I've talked to were recommended arghhh.
-
Just heard from Fulbright today... wasn't recommended to go further. I am simultaneously disappointed and a little relieved. At least now if I get into a good program, I won't have to worry about turning it down for Fulbright! Stay strong everyone, only a month or so more of waiting!
-
Not recommended! :/ :'( HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE ARGHHHHHH sa;ljdf;lsajdf;lka984urf;ga Oh well, at least now I don't have to worry about turning down a Masters program... that is, if I get into one

Congratulations!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! :D What happened Feb. 6th?
-
Ahh I just looked on the google doc and the other ETA applicant (from Arizona State) got recommended! Are they doing it by home university? Starting from the west and then going to the midwest? Don't forget about the people in Chiberia! (Chicago)

CONGRATULATIONS!

I HAVE THE SAME FEAR!
-
I don't even remember which email address I used arghhh . My heart is literally racing right now. Time to listen to some K-Pop to calm my nerves. Do all of the people who have received news already have anything in common? Is it sent out by region? I wonder when the South Korea applicants will hear back!
-
Hypothetically, if you were offered a) a Fulbright ETA to go to a country that you've dreamed about going to, and renewable up to three years and b ) An acceptance at your first-choice masters program with funding (one year), but the admission can be deferred while the funding is not guaranteed. Where would you go? Edit: Mojodreams, sorry to hear that!

Arghh I'm at the library, otherwise I'd join you zaidypants. I already had a tasty orange Blue Moon earlier today. Maybe I should go back to my apartment to get another, but I'm in Chicago and it's coooooolllllddddddd
