  1. Okay, so it's a letter of motivation which is SOP but in a letter format so I will have to end with, yours sincerely. I am applying to European schools where they asked me for the letter of motivation. It's just that, I don't know, should I mention that, "I hope that I have been able to improve my application file and look forward from hearing you. or what? I am so confused.
  2. So well, I am reapplying to an institute that rejected me last year. I am almost done with my sop but am left with the conclusion. Given, if I was applying for the first time, I would have simply ended with, thanks for considering my application or something like that which I did last year. Though now I m confused as hell and I m left with just the conclusion. I did gain internship experience but I hv already mentioned it one separate para. Any suggestions anyone? Would really appreciate it.
  3. Well I too was in your situation. I didnt get accpeted last year so I am applying to the same school along with others. My profs were glad that I was applying to the same school and didnt mind submitting the LORs. Even the institute mentioned that they can use the same LOR from last years. As to show growth, I have to put a separate para in my letter of motivation.
  4. Well it certainly isnt crazy. I plan to apply for masters in the same course and got in touch with few alumni of Oxford and other univs. Some of them did their PhDs and are now working with United Nations esp in the UN Women dept. They didnt want to pursue a scholarly career and be involved in policy making but loved the subject. So well, it really isnt crazy if you want dont want to enter academia. Hope this helps!
  5. You should check the institutes website and their prospectus for MIA. . For further info you can write to "prospective@graduateinstitute.ch" or "admission@graduateinstitute.ch" Plus you can contact other students too regarding this. These helped me alot. I hope it helps you too.
  6. Thats very sweet of you Meg11 and I did manage to get the answer from one of the alumni so no problem
  7. Hi Loric, Thanks so much for the response! As for the question above, no there is no place else where I can mention the address. As for the prompt, there is nothing particular mentioned, just like a normal SOP.
  8. Hey! So i am applying for masters in development studies to IHEID & Sceinces Po where both demand letter of motivation instead of SOP. Though, the content ofcourse is the same. Still, the format differs. For instance, when we write a letter, we mention the address, the date, subject, salutation etc etc which is not reqd in an SOP. Hence I had few questions and was wondering if anyone can help me out with it. 1. Does writing all that (salutation, subject etc) counted within the word limit or is it the content which starts after Dear Sir/Ma'am which is counted? 2. Starting off, with I am ___ , a graduate of ____ and interested in applying for this course too eats up the word which they anyway can see from my application profile. So in this case, what should be my opening line? Should I just start off with, "I am keen to do this course because of the following reasons or what? 3. Should I write title Letter of Motivation above or just start with the address? I am really confused, so I would appreciate any kind of help with this! Thanks, Angel
  9. Hey! I started a post too but didnt get any response. I am applying to IHEID as well for MDev for the second time. Last year, i was refused admission to the same course but well, IHEID is my dream school so yep I am applying again. Anyway I am still to send my application as I am working my butt off for Letter of motivation. Anyone already done with their application?
  10. Hey! I am planing to apply to Gender Studies at LSE and SOAS, along with international development. Though, judging from the posts above, I dont think anyones applying to UK. Though still, any info on which is better amongst the two? As, I was talking to some other people and they totally advised against LSE. :/
  11. Hey! Okay so here goes my first post! I am applying to Masters in Development Studies at four institutes; SOAS, LSE, IHEID and Sciences Po. I graduated this June with first disticntion in History Hons from Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi. I have done 3 internships, though not directly related to the field of development but along the lines of women empowerment, child rights as well as human rights and stuff. Last year, I got a rejection from IHEID for the same course but given that its my dream school, i am applying again. I am almost done with everything but stuck on my statement of purpose which is sucking the life out of me. Anyway, anyone else suffering from this block? or applying to these schools? Would love to discuss anything to everything or whatever lies in the middle or just share anxities together! Angel
