Anyone applying to Lee Kuan Yew School, Singapore?
k_angie replied to AsiaPolicy's topic in Government Affairs Forum
NUS as a university has a wonderful reputation. Not only that, the Lee Kuan Yew Schools is awesome. I have some friends studying there. I wanted to apply to the school but I can't given they need a four year undergraduate degree and I have three. Nonetheless, I would say if you have qualifications, do apply. And yes their financial aids are pretty generous too. Apart from this I don't know much. Anyway, but you already did knew that. :/ Also, I was strongly advised by not only by many academics but some professionals too, to not apply to LSE as the school is not as good as it used to be. Anyway, for more info on SIPA, I suggest you attend their online information session which is due in another one week. Check their website for details. Good luck. -
Hi! I am from India too. I used that exp of living in the country and drew parallels with my interest in the course I was applying for. I too wrote a personal statement to apply for my masters. In that I wrote about how my personal experiences as a child in school or in my under graduation helped me gather inspirations and motivations to pursue the particular course. Alternatively, if by chance you scored a low gpa in any semester or any minor, major, you could mention that too. Though, don't make it sound like an excuse but a proper explanation with how did you achieve to overcome it later. Or if had to face any hardships to study or something, you could mention that too. So well basically it's anything to everything from your life which you think reflects your choice of taking this course. Does this make sense? Hope it helps. Cheers!

My recommender didn't send LOR although deadline passed
k_angie replied to omarabdalla's topic in Letters of Recommendation
Hi! My friend faced the same problem. Though she mailed the university and told this. The university people had increased the deadline late by 5 days as they received many similar emails by other applicants. I suggest you write to the admission people and then wait for their response. I hope it shouldn't be a problem. Good luck -
Hi Poetic Life, I too faced the same thing with one of my referees. Though the thing with her was even though she never wrote back or replied to my emails, she wrote and uploaded my LORS before my deadline (even though, just few hrs away from it but anyway) . Just make sure your prof knows the deadline and i am sure he or she shall get back to you before it. Dont worry. It will be fine. good luck

Same here. The anxiety is freaking me out. -

Hi Alchyna, Yes IHEID was the only school I applied to. Never mind about the late reply. It's okay, You know I am so freaking scared and anxious cuz I didn't stick to the word limit. Went a lil overboard with 100 words or so. Though, my status has been changed to under consideration and I am being hellishly positive. No more over confindence. As for the statement, I think I gave my best, like the bestest. No more scope of improvement types. So now it's wait and watch. I am reconsidering applying to oxford cuz it's more research and academic oriented where I am looking for something more career driver or along professional lines like the programme at IHEID. Maybe I will apply to LSE. Idk, let's see. The deadline is still 1 month away. Another thing, like you, I too keep on checking follow up page for IHEID and sciences po. I just want to have the news by mid December about my offer with full scholarship. Nothing in the world would pls me more. Anyway I hope I meet you in Geneva next year. Btw did you get the replace button option in your follow up application? I wonder what's the use of it, given it's not functional anyway.

Graduate Institute Geneva - applications for 2014 year
k_angie replied to Corina's topic in Political Science Forum
Yes I did. At first I thought, they wanted me to replace the LOR or something but no functional use is present as such! -
Hi Redflower37, You do of course stand in a chance. The pros of your application would be your citizenships, language skills, academic course and plus the additional experience you would get after applying to internships post your under graduation. The only thing that should be a problem would be your grades if you can't pull them up. Though given you mentioned you can, I don't think that will be a problem either. I have applied to the institute for development studies programme. I would give you my background if you think that would be a lil helpful for you to decide. It isn't outstanding or out of the world but not bad either. Hope this helps.

Graduate Institute Geneva - applications for 2014 year
k_angie replied to Corina's topic in Political Science Forum
Yes I too got the validation ticks. Yes this would make an apt Christmas present. Anyway if I remember correctly, people got their results before 15th last year. Idk why they made it late this year. Also, everyone who have applied for one specific course receives their decision together with only a day or two diff. -

k_angie replied to Corina's topic in Political Science Forum
I too have applied for the same course and it says the same just like yours. Though, it means that they have started validating the files and sending it across various departments for reviewing. They should start the consideration process sometime during this week. This is what I was told when I dropped them the email regarding the same. -
Hello, I am applying to the MPhil programme of Oxford for development studies among other master programmes. The application requires two essays and one statement of purpose. I am done with those the latter but I am still deciding for my essays. Thus, I was wondering if the current or former or anyone who applied to the programme could give me insights for my application. As in, any suggestions or anything that would help me submit an almost perfect (?) application. Really, any comment or suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks!

Women/Gender/Feminist Studies fall 2014

Thank you! I applied to KCL's International Development already! -
Hey Alchyna, I did reply on the other topic of mine where you posted regarding great schools for development. Anyway, like you, I too was searching a forum to talk and share experiences and seeing none started this topic. I too have completed my application for IHEID & Sciences Po and I am working on my statements for SOAS and Oxford. Yeah, I only applied to IHEID last year and became a lil over confident. Apart from that, I got rejected due to one reason only, that is my letter of motivation was not to the point but about everything else in the world. It went more like an essay on development rather than as to why I want to do the course and my inspirations. So yeah, hence the rejection. Though I am keeping my fingers crossed this time and hoping to get through. I started working my butt off on it since July, making drafts and stuff. So let's see. Here's hoping for the best! Good luck to you too Btw are you targeting American Universities too?

Great Schools for Development Studies?
k_angie replied to k_angie's topic in Interdisciplinary Studies
Well I completely understand. Though I have met many people who asked me to not apply to lse. I started the application but I am still wondering if I should or not. Anyway not trying to dissuade you or something. So anyway, I completed my applications for IHEID and Sciences PO. Finally. What's your status? Almost done with SOAS too. Oxford is taking time with two additional essays and all. Are you applying to American schools as well? Btw, I came across your posts in a different topic and your career goals are so much similar to mine. -
Hey! I am interested in applying to schools for masters in Development Studies or International Development. I have already applied to the graduate institute, Geneva, Sciences Po Paris and SOAS. I am thinking to apply to oxford as well. Hence my question is, does anybody know some good schools for The course apart from the ones I mentioned. I missed an opportunity for applying last year and therefore want to cover all great schools. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
