INFJ here! There was one point where I questioned whether SLP was the right profession for me because of my introversion, but over time I started to realize that introverts have a unique set of strengths that can actually benefit their clients and coworkers. Even though I am an introvert, I think this field suits me perfectly. I took the StrengthsQuest personality test a few years ago and my strengths were found to be the following: empathy, relator (forming deep relationships), restorative (problem-solving), individualization (observing others' strengths), and achiever. My strengths definitely complement a career in SLP. You can read about the traits and take the test here. Also, I think most online forums tend to attract introverts, so that might explain why the results show a greater number of introverts here, lol. I agree with the poster above! Do not make the focus of your essay be your low GPA. Instead, highlight all of the positive qualities you have and, if you feel it is necessary, briefly mention/explain your GPA with 1 or 2 sentences.

I highly recommend that you check out http://gre.magoosh.com! Even if you don't buy their service (which I would recommend... plus it's on sale right now), you should check out their GRE blog because it has tons of tips and even study plans. I only memorized around 400 words (using a phone app called quizlet) and I wish that I had memorized more. That is absolutely essential to do well on the verbal part (unless you already have a very advanced vocabulary full of obscure words that nobody knows, lol).

I will definitely be investing in a rolling backpack - my shoulders/back/neck were so screwed up from lugging around my papers/laptop in tote bags during undergrad. I will probably be getting this JanSport one. I would love to get a new laptop, but I just don't know if that is a wise financial decision since I'm already pretty broke! I am one of those students who does absolutely everything on their laptop. I have a 5-year-old Vaio. I use Microsoft OneNote to take notes and I could not recommend it enough! I love having all of my notes in one place, and I love being able to quickly search through all of my notes for phrases/words. It has been so helpful. I don't think that OneNote is compatible with Macs (although it might be?) and for that reason alone I would stick with a PC. This may sound weird, but recently I've been going to estate sales and I've been finding tons of unused/unopened craft supplies for dirt cheap. I have a nice little collection going, haha. I will also be buying a lot of my apartment stuff (appliances, cookware, decor) from estate sales to keep costs low. If you're poor like me, I would definitely look into those lol.

I heard back from my final school! It is such a relief to know that the waiting game is finally over!! Once I get funding info from IU, I really think I'll be able to start making the big decision. Right now I'm still so unsure about where I want to go. My dream location, dream price tag, and dream program do not at all match up! Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back from schools!!

I was accepted and I am also on the wait list for a scholarship. It's honestly just too much money for me to justify going without a scholarship, so I will likely be declining.

I've heard current students say the only thing they would recommend reviewing before graduate school is transcription. I actually never learned narrow transcription in my phonetics course, so I think that I am going to try to teach myself that. Other than that, I'll probably look over my old notes from a few classes, too. I graduated in December so I'm worried about becoming a little rusty by next fall. I'm also going to start reviewing/practicing Spanish a lot more.

First of all, I am so sorry that happened to you. Online classes are tricky in that way. I have made a similar mistake in the past (forgot to start a huge project until after it was already due), but luckily it was just for an online art gen ed. I think that you will be fine. I remember my teachers recommending that students take difficult coursework during their final spring semester so that if they got a bad grade (I'm assuming a B or C), it wouldn't affect admissions decisions. If you do get a C, I think that I would just explain the situation when you send your transcripts to them and say that you will retake the course in the summer if necessary.

Congrats!!! Congratulations!!! Getting that first acceptance is such a relief! Congratulations on making your decision!! I am so jealous of people who know exactly where they want to go... I'm still so conflicted!

This is definitely the best attitude to have! This entire process is so exhausting and draining and it can really cause you to doubt yourself and your abilities. The trick is to stay positive. I have a feel this will be *the* week for a lot of people who have been waiting to hear back. I wish you the best of luck!!

Is it correct that PSU's target class size is 50? I have that written down in my notes, but now I can't find that information on their website.
