  1. Literary_tourist: we connected over PM. Accepted to Concordia but have yet to make a decision. Also thought I'd share my acceptance to Washington's Comparative Literature/Cinema program. If anyone else is thinking of Washington or has info to share, feel free to be in touch. Thanks.
  2. Hi paulbassett. My visit isn't official. By coincidence, I will be in Seattle for a conference late next week and asked to stop by the department for a chat. I haven't heard about any sort of official visit weekend. Congrats on your acceptance to the program. What do you study? My area is comparative world cinema.
  3. Hi all. Though I've mostly frequented the Film and English forums here, I did apply and was accepted to one Comp Lit program: Washington. I'm going to Seattle next week for a campus visit and hope to learn more about my funding situation. If anyone else is considering Washington and would like to chat more, feel free to be in touch. Thanks.
  4. Thanks much, jennnnn. I've heard good things about both the program there and the city, so I'm strongly considering it. Affordability is the only issue I'm struggling with. Still waiting on funding information. I don't speak a word of French, so going to Concordia would be a great way of learning. Je suis.... excited.
  5. I thought I would check back in now that I've some results to share with other film folk. I've been accepted to Concordia's PhD program; waitlisted for Oregon's English/film track program; and rejected from Wisconsin, Iowa, and Pittsburgh. Still waiting on Washington's Comparative Cinema program. If there are others looking long and hard at Concordia, feel free to be in touch. Thanks.

I'm fortunate in that I'll get a lot of face to face time with my faculty during a conference I'm attending later this month. Should be able to clear things up, ask about moving, tips for settling in, etc. Feel free to be in touch through PM if you want to combine powers aimed at researching housing options in Montreal.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for funding decisions, but assuming the chips fall where I expect them to, I'm heading to Montreal. My understanding is that new students should get settled at or prior to Moving Day (July 1st), as housing becomes more difficult to nail down after that. But that date looms so near... Would have to expedite certain things to make that timeline happen for me.

coffeesleep, if you haven't already seen it, the thread linked below seems to have more recent information about living in Montreal: I'm also probably moving to Montreal in the summer to attend Concordia for a film PhD. Lots of research to do, but I like learning about cities. Feel free to be in touch to chat more.
  9. Nice going on the interview with NYU, jennnnn. Huzzah! Anyone have anything else to share? I am fairly certain of a rejection from Pittsburgh. Should come in the mail any day now. (He says reaching for the vodka.)
  10. Congrats to those who've secured interviews from some of their programs. Looks like Indiana has started to roll out acceptances, if the post in the results page from a day or two ago is any indication.
  11. Thanks for the update, jennnnn. I don't have anything else to share other than to say I've heard the English track of Pitt's film studies program will announce before February 10th. Otherwise, all quiet on the front.
  12. Yep, on quiet on my end, still. Early yet. I have a feeling when it rains it will deluge.
  13. In browsing through older forums, it appears that this is about the time some applicants start hearing whispers from their programs. If anyone wants to share any news, 'tis the season.
  14. Thanks for the information in this forum. Operationchampagne: I was also keeping my eye on the French language issue, but I've heard from both professors at Concordia and friends who've lived in Montreal that I would be fine studying there as I work on my French in the meantime. (But I'm not expecting to go to Concordia, in all honesty.) Montreal would indeed be cool, though...
  15. I'm not prepared to live in LA, NYC, Chicago, etc. right now due to their size. I prefer smaller cities or college town atmospheres. Where I live contributes a great deal to my level of happiness, which is my #1 criteria at this point.
