  1. Thanks for the responses guys! I agree with what you have said. If and when I get the job with the term ending in September, I will be up front about my intention to move away mid-August and negotiate something with them.
  2. I received a partial funding offer from my graduate school, so I am looking for a summer job to hopefully supplement the rest of the money I'll be needing next year. My problem is this, all the summer student jobs I am applying for run terms like May-Sept. Obviously they would be fine for a student staying in area for school, but I am going to be moving. The city I am moving to (Montreal) is new to me, and I would like to have a couple of weeks to get settled in and get everything figured out (this is also be my first time living alone). So "lying" about availability to say, September 5th, on an application (when I'm planning to move around August 20th) isn't a big deal, right? Am I over-thinking it or what.. Do any of you have any experience with this kind situation? The other thing is, the jobs I am applying for (archival work in museums) are exactly the field of work I'd like to pursue after graduation, so I'd like good references, etc.
  3. I received a similar email. About three weeks later, I got an invitation to an open house for accepted students and then a few days later I received an official email. It felt like forever! It took a while for the portal to be updated as well, to reflect my changed admission status. Still waiting on a letter by post (assuming they will actually send me one, everything seems paper-free these days!)
  4. I'd tend to think that a letter/email would arrive first. My app portal still says a reference letter is missing when they've already got everything and made a preliminary decision in my favour.
  5. Far too often. And it's past office hours now so I need to step away from the computer... *backing away slowly* This weekend will be fun!
  6. So far I've been trying to reassure myself by assuming the formal approval really is just that, a formality, rubber stamping the application. Kind of like a background check for a job. Since the director told me that the graduate admissions committee was "unanimous" in their recommendation for my acceptance, I have to think I am pretty much in as it stands. I had not actually realised my application would be going through two levels of assessment. I'd guess the secondary level is more to keep control of budgetary considerations? At this point though, I would be happy enough to know I was in for sure even if I had no offer of funding. A TAship or RAship would be enough for me.
  7. This is the same issue I'm wondering about... I received an email from the Graduate programme director Monday (Feb 16) which said I'd been recommended by the Graduate committee and my file was being forwarded to the Faculty for final and formal approval. I had emailed back at the time to ask if it was a definite "yes" and was told it was. But now I am worried since I have not received the formal email from the Faculty so far, when it was said I would be receiving it "shortly".. Probably over-thinking this and worrying about nothing, but I am still nervous they will change their minds!
