  1. I have a dumb question: are we supposed to respond to the unofficial acceptance email from a POI? I still haven't made up my mind so I'm not sure if I should let my POI know that I haven't decided on attending yet?
  2. Thank you! I received my bachelor's degree from a college in Wisconsin, and yes you are totally right, the winter over there is brutal. But I'm a winter person and I really love snow (I don't like summer woops) so I guess 70+ inches of snow per year is a plus...?
  3. I got admitted to University of Oregon with guaranteed funding! Decisions, decisions.
  4. I would say the same thing if it's UC-Berkeley
  5. I got accepted to Wisconsin-Madison! Funding status is not mentioned though. But still - my first ever admission offer!
  6. Me too! The longer the wait, the less confident I feel about getting accepted...
  7. 3 rejections (2 PhD and 1 masters) from Penn State in the results page... This is terrifying lol
  8. -- also, my GRE is crappy too! And I didn't bother to retake it since I don't think I could improve any better in such a short period of time.
  9. Congratulations everyone! I'm still waiting... :\ I think my research interest is slightly different from any of yours... I'm interested in cartography and GIS - mainly cartographic journalism, web cartography & geovisualization.
  10. Man, my Oregon application still shows that my official transcript is "pending." I sent it like 2 weeks ago and I am pretty sure it should have arrived by now. I emailed the department but they never reply...
  11. By UW, do you mean Wisconsin? I just got my geography & cart/GIS bachelor's degree from Wisconsin. All that I could say is that PhD program extremely competitive. I wonder if you're applying to be under Bill Cronon's supervision?
  12. woops, I just started working on my SoP for Oregon and it is due on the 15th. But oh well, I will just use my previous SoPs as the base and do some major editing so I guess it shouldn't be too hard...?
  13. Man, I still have two more schools to apply to - Oregon and North Carolina. The deadline for Oregon is January 15 and I think all my professors that are going to write me recommendation letters are on their break right now? Would they even read emails...?
  14. Just submitted my applications to Penn State and Wisconsin! I still have North Carolina and Oregon but the apps for these two schools won't due until January so yeah
  15. Ah cool. Awesome. Thanks! But you know what, I think I should just submit it before 12 am Dec 15 just to be safe. I'm so worried about my recommendation letters though. I really hope my professors will get them submitted on time. I wish there was a way to know if the letters are in. I've sent them reminders through the application website so I hope they are aware of the deadlines. I don't know if I should send them personal emails to notify them but I don't want to come off desperate, pushy and annoying (although I have to admit I am kinda desperate to know the status of the letters right now)
  16. Thank you! Okay I have one stupid question. If the website says "Deadline: December 15" does it mean I have to get it submitted before December 15 or by December 15?
  17. Wisconsin is due this Sunday too and I haven't sent in mine. I already have my statement written but I still need to revise it. I am just done with classes yesterday and I think I deserve a day off By the way I'm done with college! Wooohooo
  18. Just submitted my application to Penn State. Had to rush through it though. I hope there aren't any errors
  19. I haven't. Still waiting for my professors to send their recommendations in.
  20. I am currently trying to get my SoPs done and I have a few questions in mind: I am not sure how specific should I talk about my research interest. I mean if it's not specific enough they may think I am directionless and if it is too specific I am afraid they will think I am not up to any other options. What do you guys think? Also, do we really have to mention specifically the name of our professor of interest in our SoP? Some people said you have to mention your professor of interest in your SoP but I'm worried if that will narrow down my chances because I am up to working with any professor.
  21. I just started using QGIS and it is AMAZING
  22. Which branch of geography are you guys planning to pursue? Human geography? Environmental geography? GIS? (just trying to keep conversations going on lol)
  23. I am an international applicant but I am currently doing my bachelor's degree in America.
  24. Wisconsin, Penn State, West Virginia, North Carolina and probably Oregon. MA & MS.
  25. I'm applying for masters and I've also been sending out emails. So far so good, they are mostly positive responses.
