This discussion reminds me, the Kennedy School's Citizen recently had a series of articles written by last year's graduates. I was struck by how many (half, I believe) were working in the private sector. Does anyone know what percentage of HKS students work in the private sector after graduation? jmoney, from your experience, what portion of your classmates feel like they will have to go into the private sector to be able to repay their loans and maintain their standard of living? policywife: Thanks for your comments. It is reassuring to know that other schools are equally valued in the workplace, just in case I don't get that coveted admit or don't want to go into crazy levels of debt.

Sigh. I can't wait for this to be over.
-
Holy cow. I am going to explode.
-
It does appear that last year admits went out before the phone-a-thon.
-
I don't even want to get my hopes up about the possibility we will hear from HKS soon. If we assume that the phone-a-thon will really take place this week, we could all be waiting until later this week.
-
I wonder how the are phrasing these things when people call... When I called a days weeks ago, they said we would hear by April 15.
-
Oi, dagger. I just want the waiting to be over. I want to be able to focus on my daily activities without thinking about ways that I can check email every 30 minutes.

Sigh

Don't get too excited yet, fellow forumites. That was 11:42 Pacific time.
-
This date is scientifically proven, fellow forum-dwellers. It is a date that forumites announced after careful analysis of HKS/KSG's previous behavior. In the past three years, HKS has announced admits on the second Friday of March. Give into the craziness. It's the only thing that keeps many of us going.

I need to take my mind off the pain of the WWS waitlist. Anyone want to start freaking out about HKS? Anyone have any morsels of information to share? I am still sticking by the original prediction of March 13! My proof? Well, Harvard's Spring Break starts on March 21 and goes through March 29. If they don't release decisions on Friday (or soon thereafter), the phone-a-thon to new admits will not take place until March 30, at the earliest. That's less than two weeks before the HKS open house. On the other hand, if decisions go out today the phone-a-thon can take place by next week, before the Spring Break. Indeed, the evidence is solid, and the logic is unquestionable. By tonight, this forum will be abuzz with HKS talk.

Oi, invictus, I wish I shared your enthusiasm for discussing the waitlist. At this, point I am going to assume it's very unlikely I will get off it.This PDF document, http://gradschool.princeton.edu/about/d ... able_A.pdf (I can't remember if younglions or policy_applicant originally shared it) shows that in the past few years WWS has admitted about 100-110 individuals and has had a yield in the 60-70 percent range. Since, their class size is about 70 individuals, that gives you an idea of our chances of coming off the list. So, it's better for my mental health to pretend the whole WWS thing is over. I got much further than I thought I ever would. Although, in a way, that only makes it worse: now that I realize that this was not the far-fetched fantasy I thought it was, I want it even more. Regardless, I will probably keep the waitlist letter forever, to show my kids and grandkids that I am not lying, I really almost made it into Princeton. Good luck!

So, FSIA, pray tell more about these waitlist admits to WWS. It has, quite suddenly, become a topic of interest to me.
-
younglions: Our resident expert on all things WWS, any stats on admits off the waitlist? (I know FSIA claimed earlier that one exists. )
-
younglions and sisepuede: Congrats! It's good to see fellow gradcafe-ers make it. As for me, the agony continues: I just got waitlisted. It's good. But sigh.
-
younglions: Which keywords are you using for your search? I see an admit last year that includes the following info. "Emailed 6:40pm EST, last name starts with 's'." (Which has led me to perform all sorts of calculations about when my last name's turn might be.) But, I don't see the 2:05 rejection. (I wonder if WWS adcom people are sitting around reading our crazy theories, laughing their behinds off. :?: )
-
policy_applicant: Oh, I hope you are right. And, it's so funny, up until a few days ago, I actually had very little hope for WWS. And, now my imagination is running wild.
-
jduds: I am sorry my original post offended you. (I intended to edit it, erased it by mistake, and felt too lazy to retype it.) Nevertheless, the tone on this board has been cordial so far, and it would be a shame if that changed. We're all sharing opinions, ideas, and information, and, it helps me to hear diverse viewpoints as I shape my plans. Nevertheless, like policy_applicant and others, I do think name--the faculty, alumni, and prestige it gets you--counts. It's not everything, but it counts. My original edit: Anyone giving up hope yet that we will hear from WWS today?

Drats.

I find myself wondering these past few days... How did Barack Obama and John McCain sleep/concentrate/eat/etc throughout the month of October? Seriously. This grad school thing is peanuts compared to running for president. And, I am about to fall apart.
-
GSPPhopeful: If you look through last year's threads and results, you will find an encouraging number of waitlist admits. It can be done. I might not bet the house on it, but it can be done. P.S. FSIA: The mythical waitlist WWS admit! Aren't they usually found at the end of the rainbow, next to the leprechaun's pot of gold?
-
sisepuede: I wouldn't freak out if you did not receive this request. In addition to more than three years of work experience, the program's requirements include an advanced degree or some graduate-level work.
-
I just want this to be over. I either want my spirits to soar like an eagle upon hearing some good news or my hope to die if I fail to receive the news. But, I want it to be over.
-
Indeed, dayafterxmas, especially now that younglions dashed everyone's hopes. And, one second I will freak out about the decision coming soon, the next I freak out because I am freaking out about something that I should have given up on before I even applied.
