Cornell07: Sigh. But a bit humorous, since the SOP was sent electronically. On the positive side, they are communicating with you. Good luck! -
Oh, no! I am obsessed!!! And, I have no life! Gadhelyn, I will yield 9th to you. (Well, at least I am not t_ruth. ) Edit: I hope the mods won't count this post in February's tally! Another edit: We top-ten people ought to be ashamed. We account for 26 percent of all posts for the month of February. Shame, shame, shame on us!

Oh, gadhelyn, what a cruel, cruel poll. I had not realized until five minutes ago that this has cost me $1,064. Sigh.

I really don't want to come across as rude, but you LOR writer was probably turned off by the fact your mom called her. And, if she included that information in the LORs, I think that could really hurt your chances. At this time, you have no idea if your LOR writer wrote a good LOR or not. But, obviously a string of rejections will be a clear and painful answer to your question. You could see if the schools will remove the LOR, but it might raise a red flag on your application nevertheless. To cover yourself, if you have the time and money, maybe you could apply to a few more schools and use a different LOR writer. Also, encourage your mom not to get involved with your LORs. Good luck!

It's not the CD I want. It's those affirmative puzzle tokens I am dying for. Ha, ha...

I have been listening obsessively to "It's Amazing" by Jem. ("And, I know, cause I've been there before / Knocking on door, won't take no for an answer / And, you'll see, cause if it's meant to be / Nothing can compare to deserving your dream.") And, while I listen, I daydream about getting an acceptance notification to my top choice. Cheesy, I know.

Here is a little ditty from the GWU's campus newspaper. Warning: If you don't want frazzled nerves, don't read it.) "Individually, four of the seven schools that offer master's degree programs have seen an increase in applications. The School of Business and the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy have increased 21 and 20 percent respectively, while the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Graduate School of Education and Human Development both reported increases of over 8 percent." (1/29/09) http://media.www.gwhatchet.com/media/st ... 3379.shtml pepper84: I get the impression that of the schools discussed on this forum, only a few schools have rolling admissions. I submitted my applicants, and many grad school/program coordinators emphasized that my early submission would make no difference. mgrn68: Your stats are good. Your lack of work experience might hurt your chances at some of these schools. But, none of us really can really say what your chances are at any of these schools. But, I think that you have a realistic chance at some of these programs. -

Dagger: Thank you for that nice comment. Sometimes I think my musings serve no purpose (other than to help me release stress). -

So anyone else excited/nervous/about to have a heart attack because historically Georgetown's first acceptances have been sent out on Thursday of the first week in February? I can't believe that we might finally hear something soon. Yay! Here's to hoping that history repeats itself. By the way, has anyone received any another status of application email from KSG? I received an email a few weeks ago saying I would receive another email informing me if any items were missing from my application. Has anyone here received that second email, confirming that your application is complete or informing you which items you are missing? -
No, no, Viva February! It's the only month with the decency to have 28 days. That sucker will be in an out like that [snaps fingers].

Public/Intl Affairs/Relations/Policy Fall 2009

Indeed, right after the election, I was wondering if the youth that had been active in or had been inspired by the campaign would be applying in droves to policy programs. Nevertheless, many/some of those individuals who have been recently inspired by the new president to work in the public sector perhaps don't have the preparation (i.e. GRE scores, GPA, and, most importantly, work experience) that many of us on this board have. I would think adcoms would be able to see the difference between an applicant who has clearly been gearing his/her career and education towards an MPP/IR degree and an applicant who decided to do this a few months ago because she/he is very suddenly inspired to work for change. Anyway, that's my hope. But, despite that logic and my calm veneer, I do share your concerns, younglions and policy_applicant, that policy programs will be inundated with applications. -

Just a little food for thought. http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=526158 I thought this portion of the article was especially interesting. "The associate dean of graduate academic programs and research at the University of Virginia -

younglions: I sent you a PM, but I not sure if I did it correctly or not. If you have not received anything, please let me know. Linden -
I'm just having a lot of trouble getting things accomplished. It's really hard to concentrate right now. 47 days to go.
-
Frankdux: If we all upset you so much, why are you here? In other posts, you've mocked people's chances of getting into programs--even proposing a wager against one poster's chances. I just don't get it. I think it's great that there is a community where I can let go and speak about my anxieties with others who feel the same way and understand. I come to gradcafe.com to commiserate and get/share info. I am not coming here to be ridiculed or questioned.

girlseekingphd: I would not be so excited about the fact they remembered your name. Presumably, they could remember your name and application for a million reasons, some of them not flattering. I would be more excited about the fact that they have scheduled things for you to do during your visit. I would think that if they felt you were not a likely candidate for admission that they would not waste time with your visit. But, who knows what these adcoms really think? They're not human, the way they make us wait until mid-March! Good luck!

enantiomorph: No, my flagging level enthusiasm is unrelated to anything specific to GW. I'm actually still quite excited about the program; I think I am just worried I won't get be admitted. Good luck with your plans. If history is any indication, we should hear from GW shortly. Linden -
Yes, it is okay to feel some bitterness towards those who succeeded when you did not. It's normal. The question you have to ask yourself, though, is "Is it worth to be angry?"

I know. I know. I will probably have a good time in Paris, no matter what. I just wish I knew that I was going to Paris to celebrate. I don't like thinking that a trip to Paris might be a consolation prize. Although, as far as consolation prizes go, it would not be a bad one. And, Boz, thanks for the good wishes.
