  1. Congrats to all admits, Princeton is no joke. That said, I got a rejection from them too. Ah well.. I appreciate that they accelerated things this year though, at least I don't have to wait another week or two only to get dinged by them.
  2. Michigan has to be this week, hopefully tomorrow. Columbia is a reasonable call, given the previous patterns. Also maybe Stanford and Yale on Thursday or Friday - though the latter might be a bit of a stretch. What else?
  3. If you use this search term (politic*|government) you will see everything that pops up
  4. Chococommunism?! No ma'am/sir, if you deliberately construe a cry for choquality and justice as chocommunism, what does that make you? Chocolate McCarthy!
  5. Alright folks, new week. Ready for some more great news and heartbreaks? Congrats to the UMass people by the way. No, friend, this is wrong. You DON'T discriminate chocolates. This is RACIST! Shame on you! (except the ones that look like chocolates and being advertised as such, but are actually not chocolates - I am looking at you white chocolates)
  6. Congrats cautious! I am very happy for you - no more cautiousness necessary indeed!
  7. While I completely agree with your point, it is worth noting that you are a political theory person. A low Q score may be more problematic for other subfields. Grain of salt and all. Thanks for the heads up.
  8. Thanks a lot for the kind words folks. If it wasn't for the Rochester and Wisconsin rejections, I would have been convinced by now that the adcoms are reading someone else's file but sending the acceptances to me instead of that poor fellow. Then I get these rejections and I say - Yeap, that's me. Congrats to Cornell admits! Extra kudos for wokeem!! Nice job sir/ma'am! A lot of nice green lines on the board this week. I think I am 5/7 on my predictions for this week. The only remaining ones are Michigan and Notre Dame. Edit: Edited for wokeem & inability to upvote
  9. Ever since, I can never set foot on a White Castle. I can claim one, thanks! Seems like the notifications are not going out all at the same time, so I would caution anyone to jump to conclusions if you haven't received one yet.
  10. Xanthe, I understand what you are going through. I know that it is tough and it sucks. It also sucks that everyone has to deal with it himself/herself . Even when there are people around you who care about you and trying to console you, they will likely have no idea how it really feels. That said, you are not alone in this. Many people, including a number of the members of this community, have gone through the same phases and felt the same pain. You are not the first or -unfortunately- the last one who has to handle such emotions. I am not saying this should necessarily alleviate the pain, but it is something. I am sorry about the (presumed) rejections. Sorry that you had to relive the disappointment. Unfortunately my -or anyone's- words are not going to help you mend the wounds, it is you who has to find a way to move on. Still, there are three important things that you (and everyone) should be reminded of: 1) Hang in there, the cycle isn't over. You only need one. Postpone the pain until the end of the cycle. 2) Not getting into grad school is not the end of the world. It sure as hell not. In fact, even in the worst case scenario, there is a pretty high probability that you will be really glad you didn't have to live through the long and impoverished years of grad school, the abysmal job market, and the tenure marathon. Life goes on, and no one apart from the academics, grad students and us hopefuls gives a damn about this process and what comes out of it. 3) Hang in there, the cycle isn't over. You only need one. Postpone the pain until the end of the cycle. Chin up!
  11. My understanding is that you are completely fine having a non-polisci background as long as you demonstrate an understanding of the discipline and can pose political science questions in your SOP and/or writing sample, and signal that you will not have a problem hacking the stats requirements through the GRE Q scores and/or math/econ courses.
  12. Ha! Profit! Congrats grotian, nice job! Welcome aboard and congratulations! No better way to make an appearance with a Berkeley acceptance
  13. Out of rep points again.. Congrats TMCB!! You deserved that one.
  14. I will go ahead and claim one of the Pitt. E-mail was from the DGS - seems like a mass e-mail. Funding info etc. came attached. From the e-mail it is not possible to get a sense of whether they sent notifications to everyone, or doing it in waves or something else. So there may be hope yet for those still waiting to hear. Hope this helps
  15. Congrats Orlien, a nice streak you have there! Now that I got dinged by Rochester, I feel like I should take advantage of the commercial opportunities that I encounter. I mean life doesn't stop, does it? This e-mail below came at a much needed time (while I was hoping to get news from the R-town), and I feel like I found my calling. Seems pretty legitimate right? Ms Favor should definitely get props for creativity and the "dearest one" line, if you ask me. "Dearest one, Please permit me to introduce myself to you. I am Miss Adi Favor, single girl and the only child and daughter of late Mr.Coulibally Adi from Ivory Coast. I want to use this great opportunity to request for your urgent assistance for relocation and investment establishment in your custody by transferring my inherited money into your bank account and also relocate to your place to continue my education. My late father Mr.Coulibally Adi was a businessman before he was assassinated on 9th of Feb. 2013. Some months after the death of my father, two of my uncles conspired against me and sold my father’s properties to a Chinese businessman all because I am a girl. A week ago, I opened my father’s briefcase and saw some documents which my late father used and deposit the sum of Four Million Six Hundred Thousand USD ($4.6 Million USD) in a Bank here in Ivory Coast with my name as the next of kin. I have tried to withdraw the money so that I can start a better life and take care of myself but the branch manager of the Bank whom I met in person told me that my present status doesn’t permit me by the local laws to withdraw money or make a transfer of money from this account. He advised me to present somebody or a company to stand on my behalf that will help me and invest the money or I should wait till when I will be 25 years old according to the law of Ivory Coast and also the agreement bond which the bank signed with my late father the day of this deposit. Please if you can help me, I would like to relocate to your country to further my education while you invest the money in any good business investment on my behalf. I am willing to give you a good compensation if this is acceptable to you. The funds will be legitimately transferred into your bank account through bank wire transfer, there is no single risk involves. Please I need your urgent reply in this matter. Regards, Miss Adi Favor"
  16. Ha! Thanks for the consoling words zudei, though I highly doubt it. Time to move on. Rochester is a great program, and you should get on with the well deserved celebrations. Don't forget to buy a round of scotch for coach during the rush 14!
  17. I see. Sigh. I guess I just got dinged then. Won't lie, this one really hurt, but such is life. Congrats to the admits, zudei and B-squared. Nice job, folks!
  18. Can you maybe give me a link? And congrats! I guess you just got the good news, given the smiley
  19. ROCHESTER?! What website is that folks? Are we supposed to just go to the online application?
  20. Congrats to Chicago people! Things are moving. Groovy. I am 2/7 on predictions. If I end up 7/7, I should get some sort of reward. For example a Princeton acceptance would suffice, thank you. A few hours ago 73 people were reading this topic. Not sure if I had seen a number higher than that though.
  21. So, with NYU I am 1/7 on predictions. Bring it on! Congrats to all NYU admits! All those who didn't get the news yet, hang in there and IRToni - DUDE! Oh the suspense, sweet suspense.
  22. This week we are expecting to hear from UCLA, Michigan, Chicago, and NYU right? I also see Pitt, Iowa, and Notre Dame as possibilities based on the previous results. Last but not least, we will probably hear more of Illinois, TAMU, Penn State, and FSU I think we are reasonably certain that Stanford, Rochester, and UCSD is not going to be this week, based on the posts of people who are privy to some insider info. What am I missing?
  23. This is a great list cautious! Thanks for sharing. After perusing cautious' brilliant list, I would also recommend everyone to The poster is not a polisci person, but many of the questions listed there are applicable to us as well
  24. Apparently my reading comprehension skills took the Sunday off. Sorry. Pre-stipend period can be problematic, now that I think about it. If you will live in a metropolitan area, finding a sublet for a month or so can help postpone the deposit/first-last month rent payments until you start getting paid. Though this may not work in a small / college town. Pre-paid phones can similarly curb the costs in the beginning. Credit cards may save the day if you have them, and use them responsibly. But yes, the initial period will probably require a bit of an ascetic lifestyle.
