Always check your spam folder! That's where I found my Wisconsin-Madison acceptance email. Congrats on the wait list!
-
Oh, yes. I really can't complain at this point.
-
Aaaand I just got my Arizona rejection. Too bad, but it's relieving to have a definite response.
-
I still haven't heard anything. I'm fairly confident they only have rejections to send out at this point, though, so just waiting on that...

I didn't mention a single POI in my application or contact them before the admissions process, and I've received several offers. In some cases I've received acceptance emails from faculty with similar interests to mine, which I imagine is what happens when you don't make specific mention of faculty or contact them beforehand. Don't let this worry you. Contacting POIs may be a good idea, but it is definitely not a prerequisite to admission.

I just declined a funded offer from Loyola, hope that helps one of you!

Arizona State University just re-opened their PhD program, and I believe the deadline is Feb. 15th. They claim to have a lot of teaching assistantships available this year.

Just want to echo this point. I'm probably going to automatically rule out one or two of my acceptances based on fit, but I still intend on visiting several programs before making a decision. While ranking is important, in my mind it's more important to be sure that you'll be happy in a particular environment for the next 5-8 years. There's no point in attending a top-20 or even top-10 program if you're just going to burn out quickly due to climate issues.

How close to the deadline would all of you let it get before contacting a department asking about admissions decisions? It's far to early to really worry about this, but I know I would not feel comfortable accepting an offer from a program if I didn't have an opportunity to visit first. If it gets too close to the deadline, you'll run out of time to schedule a visit, etc.

I think in general it would be a bad idea for anyone to casually distribute a paper online, since it's possible someone may choose to plagiarize and pass it off as his/her own. Not that you would do this, but as a rule I probably wouldn't send my work to a stranger.

Big Saturday / Admissions by day of the week

The most recent admit from Arizona is an international applicant, which may explain why it showed up today rather than yesterday. -
Great news, MattDest! Many congrats!

Congratulations!

Also got into Davis today!

Here to claim the Loyola acceptance. I'm feeling quite a bit like a hoarder right now with the acceptances. Promise I wont hold on to these for too long, which will free up space for some of you.

I thought a lot about fit when choosing schools to apply to, and thus far it's turned out pretty well in my favor. Not sure how much weight it had in the admissions decisions, but I imagine it probably helped. I didn't expect to get many (if any) acceptances, but right now I'm at 3a/0w/1r/12. I would say it's pretty important.

BA. From a not-very-prestigious university.

Value theory broadly construed (including normative and applied ethics, metaethics, and political philosophy.)

Thanks! Enjoy your (good-spirited) downvote in return!

Claiming the Wisconsin-Madison acceptance! The email is personalized down to specific parts of my application they liked, and how my interests are a good fit for the program. I would expect these to come out pretty slowly. I am honestly in disbelief right now, thought this program was a bit of a reach for me.

Just to clarify my post on the results page: I'm the most recent UIC admit, and while I received notification of acceptance today, the phone call was sort of scheduled in advance over email. So, don't take the post to be too indicative of whether other notifications of UIC acceptance might take place today. (Also, wahoooo, I'm really excited about this offer!)

I take there to be substantial differences between political philosophy and philosophy of law, but I wont at all make an argument that the divide is any sharper. If there were room for more poll options, I certainly would have split ethics and applied ethics. I didn't put a whole lot of thought into this poll guys, as it was just on a whim.

I'm also curious about this kind of information. I definitely plan on contacting grad students, particularly women grad students, at any program that admits me in order to ask about the climate, but I'd like all the info I can get!
-
MattDest, I'm one of the Mizzou admits. The email says I was accepted and nominated for a fellowship, and a teaching assistantship is likely if I am not granted a fellowship. There is a visit day in March, and they will cover some of the travel costs. Very exciting!

I wasn't aware of it until now. I actually have no idea which departments are known for inappropriate behavior.
