inevitable and universal, ain't it?

hmm.. can't really comment on this because i have always used the phone-based score request. although time consuming, it's pretty easy and elaborate. if you weren't charged the first time, i suggest requesting scores via the phone.

225$? Seriously??? WTF! The max I paid was 95 each for two schools, and the lowest was 30. But 225 is absolutely nuts - brutal raping in the open daylight!

yes, same thing happened to me couple of years ago when i applied for internships. therefore i sent out transcripts to all schools myself for my phd applications this season. can't trust others sometimes for important things like these. as for you, contact gradsecs at the schools asap and ask them if they'd be still okay with you sending the transcripts. most schools haven't started their review process, and i think you should be fine. if the gradsecs say that you can't send the transcripts anymore, talk directly to some professors who interest you and explain them the situation. perhaps your resume will melt them and you'll get accepted despite of missing the deadlines.

I haven't heard of interviews yet, but NCState updated my status to 'admitted' this morning. I hope the dept will send me an email in days to come - hopefully within this week.

if the clothes are far enough to not catch fire and/or melt from the heat, i'd continue to put the clothes near the heater. mainly because when i wake up, warm clothes are waiting to greet me, and protect me from this frigid cold!!

When can candidates know the result of applications?
eklavya replied to yamamotomiechan's topic in Computer Science
Not necessarily. Most schools tend to send out acceptances and rejections letters early... which in my field of study is mid-late Jan. Even after this early acceptance/rejection period, the schools aren't done yet. They hold on to some good, but not stellar type of students. Then they send out either acceptance or rejections to this 'medium-level' students by going through their applications few more times, and sorting out the best ones from this bunch. So technically, you could hear about acceptances from them even after February. But earlier you get the notifications, more are the chances of being accepted. Or rejected. Lets not hope for the latter one though! -
Relax! Like newms said above, they will be able to match the documents to your name. If you sent your documents via post, they will see your name on the envelope. If you used online application system, it's even easier. At the worst case scenario, suppose that your essays are lost/misplaced/whatever. But as the deadline approaches, the gradsecs will see that you application is missing your SoP. Then they will contact you saying you need to complete your application - this is their job - this is what the gradsecs do. I didn't put my name on any of my SoPs (all online applications), but my applications are complete now. So don't worry. You'll be fine.

What's the story behind your avatar or username?

yep, a bird standing next to a sagebrush bush. don't feel bad though... it's not a very popular bird. some people have even asked me why male birds of this species have 'boobs'!? i love people! -
really? here's the 1-2-3: 1. open wordle (using the link on the OP) and paste your essay. remove words you don't want to be displayed. click on 'randomize' to select the design you like the best. 2. take a screenshot, and then open microsoft paint (or any other photo editor) and paste the image (simply hit ctrl+v). crop the image area and export/save as jpeg. 3. open photobucket (just google it) and create an account if you don't have one, or log in through facebook account. upload the image to photobucket. alternatively, you can upload the image to your blog/facebook/myspace/so on. now copy the url to the image and paste the url in the 'image' option in this blog. it's the second button from the smiley.
