  1. No need to answer. I received my rejection today.
  2. Well, Fordham said "no" after I sent them an email asking about the status of my app. No biggie, have an offer from SLU and on the waitlist at Loyola Chicago, but Fordham stings. Best of luck to all of you guys and congrats to the Fordham MA acceptance!
  3. I don't know how similar they would be in terms of content, but you would be very well prepared for any science themed questions that they throw at you. My fiance took the MCAT, and I took the GRE. I don't really know how similar they are in terms of the "comprehension" that they ask of you, if that makes any sense. But the more you read something that asks you questions about the materials afterwards, you'll be getting practice for the test. I read the newspaper a lot during studying, especially the New York Times. I'd also recommend seeing if you can get a copy of the Manhattan Prep 5lb book. That thing was great.
  4. engphiledu - I hope everything works out with Alabama. This seems to be going on at a few schools, which is surprising for me because I don't remember it being this way when I applied for my MA.
  5. Thanks ccc376. Maybe they are doing the MAs first or something? I don't know.
  6. For what it's worth, my advisor did a postdoc there and he said they were pretty hectic in getting back to him about it. I'm kind of disappointed considering the app fee was $85 and they can't even let us know, but oh well. I don't see it being a good thing for me, as I was right at the deadline turning my app in. Oh well, have an offer from another school and still waiting on three others. Good luck to everyone and I hope you get some good news!
  7. Hi everyone, I have a question that I was hoping someone on here could answer: has anybody heard anything from Fordham? I applied for the PhD program in history (duh) and it seems oddly late. I have been checking the admissions stats/reports on here for a while and I haven't seen anything from Fordham for Fall 2014. The previous years seem to have been around this time, but I'm not sure if they're the best things to go by. Anyone have anything from them? Thanks
  8. Hey everyone, I applied to Fordham for a history PhD for Fall 2014, and I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat? I have been checking the Results Page religiously, but I never see anything coming from Fordham. If anything, it tends to be MSW/Clinical Psych/Counseling/etc. Is this normal for Fordham or what? Thanks!
  9. I'm also waiting to hear back from them, so you're not alone, cantthinkofagoodusername. I emailed them about a week ago asking if there had been any update on my decision, and I haven't heard anything back. I hope you at least get a waitlist spot, and good luck!

Ah, thanks for the info. I have been scoping out some apartments in the Clayton/Tower Grove/CWE/and South City/Dogtown. They seem to have some really cool, affordable living there. I'd really like to get out there and visit the campus, but it's a bit tough coming from Cali and finishing up my MA. However, I did go to Fordham last month (family in the area), and it was absolutely beautiful. Good luck with the rest of your applications and thanks for the info, maybe we'll be meeting up at SLU next Fall! If you don't mind me asking, what was the campus like?
  11. Sorry to hear about these rejections. I've been there before, and it does get better. One must keep their eyes to the stars, through thick and thin, and things will work out. Good luck everyone and have faith.

Hey Katia, Thanks for at least giving a shout out! I never received a notification of any sort about someone replying, so apologies. I would check out the SLU grad housing website (actually, I think it is for the medical school but still provides some helpful info on neighborhoods surrounding the campus): http://www.slu.edu/medicine/prospective-medical-students/about-st-louis/neighborhoods-and-living After that, I'd start looking at craigslist for apartments. They seem to have some really great looking, affordable places. I also applied to Fordham, and while I'd be hard pressed to turn them down, the cost of living is way higher. Public transportation, from what I've gathered from other forums, is hit or miss. However, there looks to be a steady flow of it towards SLU and WashU, so that might be something worth noting. Either way, if I find myself in the medieval studies department then I will definitely remember your name! Good luck with your other applications and congratulations on your acceptance.

Hello, I just have been accepted to the PhD program at SLU, and while I'm still waiting to hear back from my other programs I would not be surprised if I ended up moving to St.Louis. What's housing like close to the SLU campus, and is it possible to live closer to, say, WashU and still have a relatively reasonable commute to and from SLU? I've been checking out craigslist and apartment websites for St.Louis and, coming from SoCal, it looks extremely affordable and nice (I'm into more "character" when it comes to apartments, which is hard to find where I am at now). Also, any people here who are in the department at SLU? What's it like? I've been accepted for medieval, so I know they have a great reputation for that. Thanks!
  14. Scarf, My Q was a subpar 145 weighted. I know this needs improvement so I'm retaking in two weeks. My V was a weighted 157, which I am more focused on raisng to 160 and above. I also want to add that I'll be attending an international research conference this month, presenting at a national conference in February, and gave a paper last spring. I'm also doing a department research assistantship. I've got a 3.90 MA gpa and passed my departmental language exam. I'm also moving along with acquiring German. Thanks!
  15. Hi, ImGradBound, I just created this account to post right around the same question that you did (I didn't see a point in starting a new topic). I'm in the same boat, so hopefully somebody can help us out. I scored the same as you did in V (157), and Writing was a 4.5. Like you, I'm not applying to Harvard but I do want to get into a good medieval program. Good luck in your applications!
