  1. Hi! Long time lurker here, but I have just seen in the result search that some international student has been accepted in the Molecular Biology PhD at the University of Utah. Did you get an skype interview previously? Getting really anxious about hearing from the American schools I applied to!
  2. Just two full-time research experience for 8 weeks each, although both in really competitive programs. I was thinking of trying to get such a position in the US so that I can meet faculty there and make contacts who may help in the application process. As for your answer, thanks! It's what I was thinking, getting a work visa for this kind of things may be tough, so I can give it a chance here in Europe...
  3. I haven't actually lived there, however I spent two months in Newcastle and I agree with 30rus, both cities are really close and you can enjoy Newcastle nighlife from time to time! Actually, Durham is pretty well connected with Scotland and London by train (if you got the student card, you can go Durham-London one way for 15 pounds more or less, what is awesome!). It is a beautiful town, and although it is small you have all the services and things you may need, and it's kind of charming, I really liked it!
  4. Hi guys! Although I'm considering applying this cycle to grad school, I am afraid that my research experience is not enough if compared to that of typical American applicants (things in Europe are way different in this sense ). So, I would also like to consider looking for a research assistant position, as I've heard it is a really good chance to improve your application and make contacts. However, I don't know how this actually works... Available positions are posted on universities' websites? Or there are some kind of webpage gathering different offers? Is it possible for international students to get this positions? Any help would be appreciated!
  5. Undergrad Institution: Spanish public university (quite good in the country) Major(s): Biotechnology Minor(s): not such a thing in Spain GPA in Major: 9.7/10 Overall GPA: 9.7/10 Position in Class: we don't have a ranking, but guess top 5% or more Type of Student: International, Spanish GRE Scores (revised/old version): Q: 166 (93%) V: 162(89%) W: 4.0 B: not going to take it! TOEFL Scores: to be taken in some days! Research Experience: -IAESTE internship in Newcastle University, UK (summer 2012) -VISRA program in Vanderbilt University (summer 2013) -One semester in UNLP, Argentina (that will be happening actually after the application deadline, will it count?) Awards/Honors/Recognitions: -Best results Awards from my home University -Scholarship to develop a research project in Argentina -Some other minor shcolarship or awards Special Bonus Points: -LoR from one member of the comitee at one of my choices, however the others may be somehow weak Applying to Where: IGP program at Vanderbilt University Molecular Biology at University of Utah David Program at Rockefeller (dream option) PuLSE at Purdue Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (Japan) I know it's a short list, but I don't feel my application is strong enough, and I'm sure I will be wasting time and money. I think my main drawback is lacking publications and not having a really wide experience (only summer programs, not years or anything). However, I really have experiences all over the world under competitive programs schemes, what may be helpful. Anyway, if you have anything to say about my options, I would really appreciate it!
