  1. I hope you didn't downvote Max because of your, now deleted, post being downvoted, because that was from me. Max is a trustworthy and helpful source. I don't remember what your old post said, but it seemed unnecessarily accusatory.

I'm sorry that it sounded unnecessarily accusatory. I didn't mean for it to come across that way. I did think that it was max who down voted me so I down voted as a reply to that. I was mistaken and apologize for that (from my mistaken perspective I though he simply didn't answer me and just gave me a down vote).

I'm somewhat familiar with circumstances at UCLA myself and hadn't heard anything like this so I was surprised, I didn't mean to sound harsh.

  2. It's been really lovely here and I appreciated interacting with all the wonderful people who've been here. I'll probably be around for a few more days in case anyone wants to PM me and just to watch things settle out and down completely.

PS if anyone wants any colored pencils AND you promise me that you'll grade with I'll mail you one (just PM me).

  3. I just got into UVA. Literally in shock. Can't move. Must drink. So happy. Will most likely accept. This means that UVA might not make any more offers.

THANKS FOR ROOTING FOR ME GUYS!

    THANK YOU BASED GOD!!!!!

Congratulations! (Out of up votes though).

Mind if I ask you what the expression "based god" means? I've seen a facebook friend use it before and it baffled me...

  4. It has been a really tough choice, and as much as I want to work with Shafer-Landau, I feel UW-M could eventually be a bad fit for me. I'm becoming increasingly interested in philosophy of language, and UW-M seems to offer very little support in that area, whereas UT has amazing faculty in both language and epistemology. Having said that, if I end up going to UW-M, I'll probably be happy regardless.

I'd wait it out for UT. You're in a better position than I am to know the odds of getting an offer, but if you strongly prefer Texas over UW-M, I think it's worth the risk. Of course, this depends on how worried you are about the possibility of missing out on all your offers.

Regardless, I'd love to see you get Texas!

  5. True story: the other day, I was grading midterms in green and I thought to myself, "Man, I hope something works out for greencoloredpencil." So glad that it did.

    Congrats!!

It simply warms my heart to hear that you were grading in green.

    Thanks!

  6. I finished my honors thesis yesterday and am now incredibly hungover. But, I've never had this much free time before. What should I do with my time?

You could take up knitting. I've always wanted to but haven't had the time myself and I'd love to vicariously knit through you.

  7. I wonder how many people do this. I remember I was the only person who did my math homework in pen. People are like, why do you do that? And I was like, I don't know. I really don't know. Maybe because I'm an arrogant showoff.

I did my math and logic homework and tests in pen. Can you guess what color of pen I primarily used? (Hint: look to my username). Though I did occasionally write logic homework in pink pen as well when I had a generous instructor who didn't mind.

  8. One thing I'll never understand about this process is how rejections trickle in. UCR sent out acceptances and wait-lists weeks ago now, clearly those of us who did not hear are rejected. How hard is it to click a computer screen and send out the rejection emails as a single group? What is with this, okay, let's reject A-G today, H-S tomorrow, and the rest the day after?

Yes, this is really odd. I've heard of some programs keeping internal wait-lists but otherwise I do think it's a little silly that programs wait so long to release rejections.

  9. I've never been to Madison, but I hear good things. I've been in Austin for almost 5 years now, and Austin is great. Tons of fun.

I've only visited Austin once and it was brief (under a day). How is public transportation there?

  10. still no communication at all from Columbia - think it's fair to email them at this point? do they have an internal waitlist or anything?

I've not heard from Columbia either though I'm assuming I've been rejected and it's just an oversight. Though, it's probably not a bad idea to check just to be sure.
