  1. anthroflea - you've just passed on the curse!
  2. I've been on this forum all day. Didn't hear a peep today from the school I was waiting for. Guess it's time for beer and Skyrim.
  3. Thank you for the feedback. I hope you're right, I definitely have good letters from pretty well known anthropologists - so here's hoping.
  4. Yeah, I love anthropology for having subfields, but it is making this whole process ridiculously difficult. First of all, many of the subfields notify separately. So I keep seeing sociocultural results that actually have nothing to do with when a bio anthropology decision will be made. Second of all, some subfields get more funding than others, and as I mentioned in another thread, some subfields get funding certain years while others don't. This can result in a lot of confusion about if any funding will be available to you at all.
  5. I'm genuinely curious: does anyone without significant research experience actually have a chance of getting into a PhD program? All I have as far as research is a literature review that I'm working on (I also have done field schools and have lab experience and an internship under my belt), but from looking at results it doesn't seem like anyone else has a little experience as I do.
  6. <3 Thanks Sarab. I need those good vibes!
  7. HrdyWordy - I know how you feel. I woke up this morning and saw an anthropology result for one of the schools I thought I might actually stand a chance of getting into. I also learned that they are notifying today. I haven't heard anything. I feel like I'm going to vomit.
  8. Does anyone want to claim the UCR admittance? I would love to know who the POI is and what your specialization is. That's one of the schools I was hoping for the most.
  9. That's awesome. I'm in biological anthropology. I just wondered because my POI at UCSD told me that funding is very sparse for bio anth and each prof can offer it on a rotating basis. Apparently this isn't her year. Anyway I hope the funding is better for archaeology. Good luck to you!
  10. Awesome Jump! Look at you guys with your multiple acceptances!
  11. Thanks for the info! I am almost 100% certain I won't get in here due to a rather unsuccessful meeting with a potential advisor. She also suggested there was no funding to work with her. But it would at least be nice to get some kind of result from somewhere.
  12. Thanks xstopfloating! It's good to know that at least I'm not the only one . I would love to get into SDSU.
  13. I 100% feel this post. I have a lot to do right now with finishing up my undergraduate degree and research project, but I'm still just fantasizing about grad school. Ever since I started studying anthropology I have had the goal of continuing on to get an advanced degree. It's funny because my boyfriend doesn't get it at all. He got his masters a while ago in Geography but just kind of fell into it. He didn't have a great undergrad GPA or any research experience or anything, but he got into the only school he applied to and had not problem getting his degree. He was never super driven to get a master's degree and doesn't understand what it's like to want it super bad and to know you probably won't be qualified to work in your field at all without an advanced degree. He also has no concept of how competitive anthropology programs are. So he doesn't get why I'm so stressed about this.
  14. My POI for one school runs the department's facebook page. Which I liked, of course. So every time she posts something new I think "SHE'S ONLINE. MAYBE SHE IS GOING TO EMAIL ME!!!" Gahhhh!
  15. Does anyone know anything about the Adcomms at UCR, SDSU (particularly confused about this one because there is only one result on this website and it's a confusing one), or UCSD? I have no idea when they meet or what to expect. Each school's website says they inform at the end of February, but the results page here suggests dates from the beginning of February to mid-April for each school. I also see varied results for notification by phone, email, and postal service.
  16. Congrats, Jump! I love hearing good news here!
  17. Whoa. I am also getting calls from Grenada, Antigua, and Dominica. Wtf?
  18. NoSleep - YES. Every random phone call, every single new email makes my heart leap. And of course I am getting way more telemarketers and way more junk mail than I have ever gotten. *sigh*
  19. Haha no I definitely didn't eat anything late or spicy. I drank a beer before bed though, could be the culprit
  20. I spent all night having nightmares about monsters and not getting into grad school
  21. I am confused about how to apply for funding before you are even accepted. Would you even be considered for funding prior to acceptance? And before you've met with your advisor and outlined your project? I was under the impression that you are given info on funding once accepted. I didn't know I was supposed to be doing it all on my own.
  22. You make a lot of good points, NOWAY. Additionally, (this is anecdotal) the graduate seminar I'm in right now consists entirely of students who entered the PhD program at my university with an MA in hand from another school. They also had extensive research, collaborative project experience, teaching experience, conference presentations, and publications from their time in the MA. So I know it's possible to continue on with the PhD if the fit is right and you've put the work into padding your resume with additional experiences. I guess it's really what you make of it. The lack of funding is what really has me the most concerned. Though the program that I applied to the MA for doesn't offer a PhD program, and I have a little teaching experience, so maybe a TA position would be feasible.
