  1. You are funny! Good luck with your apps.
  2. I hear that unofficial results are making their way out.
  3. Great info everyone, thanks…have you all heard anything about HDLT concentration?
  4. Apologies if this is a repeat thread… Any gradcaforum peeps hear back yet from Education PhD programs at OISE or McGill? Fingers crossed…fingers crossed...
  5. Do you think that is for EdLD only? I am hoping to hear from HDLT, but at this point I'm pretty much assuming it's a no-go...
  6. We will persevere.... And if by child labor you mean having a baby, nah, this is definitely worse!
  7. Don't worry, Sunshinegrl! I'm sure you came across great! I think interviews are mostly to verify a) you are the person you claim to be on your application, and b ) you're not insane.
  8. Keeping me feeling positive, jackinstyle! I needed that...
  9. Anyone hear from Indiana U. - Literacy, Culture & Language Education PhD?
  10. I wonder the same thing…like you, lucerovespertino, I have no publications. A mentor professor told me recently that the key element for admissions to a PhD program is finding the right fit with a faculty member, research-wise. Does the proposed research align with research interests among faculty at school X? Are there enough professors there with expertise in that field to form a dissertation committee? This is my first time applying for PhD programs. Already, I wish I knew back in October what I know now…I would have made contact with one or more professors at each of the schools before applying. As it is, I only connected with a couple of the schools. Additionally, if I go through this again, I will do the process in reverse: seek out professors who are actively publishing in the areas that I am interested in, and apply to their schools. This may seem common sense to many applicants, but I guess I wasn't aware of these things before applying. Live and learn! (two rejections later…) Anyhow, best of luck to everyone -- it seems like a very dedicated group on the forum here. I hope we all find good homes for our doctoral study!
  11. I suppose you're right…I just feel weird about the new, obsessive me. Or, wait, have I always been like that?
  12. I just hope they don't monitor how many times an applicant checks the app status!
  13. Teaching full time…trying to stay focused on that. So difficult!
  14. If only I had majored in philosophy! Maybe then I'd have some perspective on this instead of obsessing....
  15. Hi everyone - this waiting is tortuous! I have applied to six schools for a PhD in education, focus on second language acquisition: three in the U.S., two in Canada, and one in the U.K. The latter responded with a nice message (albeit bad news) saying that I was a strong candidate but that there were no professors able to take on more graduate students this year -- they said I could apply again next year. Sadly, I realized yesterday that I applied to the wrong concentration on another one of my apps - when I submitted in October there was no info on their website indicating which professor works in which concentration. Yesterday I saw that the profs I mentioned in my SOP are in a concentration different from the one I selected on my app…I emailed the coordinator to ask for help, but it's probably a moot point by now - this school has about a 7% acceptance rate and I'm sure they're eager to boot apps out the door for any kind of clerical error! Good luck everyone -- may all the PhD or EdD candidates find a great program fit!
  16. Not sure on interview front. Just saying'...lots of acceptances last year posted here, and barely an interview posted. Haha, my version of "quantitative research". Thanks for all the super tips…good luck to all.
  17. Wow! That sounds like fascinating research. What an interesting field of study! My focus is teacher-student (specifically learners of English) interaction as seen through sociocultural and critical frameworks. Hope I applied to the right division… *gulp* So about these interviews…I am so confused. Looking back through the gradcafe results of years past, there appear to be very few Harvard Education interviews posted. Maybe posters aren't posting that they've interviewed? Or am I missing something….again... Signed, Super Paranoid
  18. That's me! Applied in October…looking forward to hearing something soon. Preferably acceptance…hardy har har. Do you know if all the departments within Education interview? Or do some offer acceptance w/out an interview? Just trying to understand how all the gears and wheels work…it's all so opaque.
  19. It is really soooooo hard waiting. It seems like the sciences are getting the admissions decisions much faster than other disciplines…or is that just me being paranoid? Or perhaps that's common knowledge…. Anyway, we're talking life decisions here, people…please please please let the notifications come soon!
