I haven't been really keeping track of who go in where and what people's options are (aside from that guy ), but even if what you say is true, I still don't see how nagging them about it at this point helps. Moreover, it creates unnecessary pressure on those who are honestly undecided--who are also apparently forbidden from having a thread for discussing their decisions on here. I'm definitely sympathetic to those who's hopes are entirely riding on the waitlist roulette and I agree that the nagging isn't the worst thing, but I can't see how it can be a good thing (at best neutral, at worst bad, because it creates undue stress/guilt in others).

I don't know if it's getting old, but I certainly understand why people are saying this. In this forum, it seems like some people sit on offers that they are sure they will turn down for quite awhile. It doesn't make sense to try and rush someone who is honestly deciding between a few schools (especially if they are visiting multiple programs), but I think that gently reminding others that lots of people are waiting on a decision isn't the worst thing.

It's a joke. Continental philosophy is from the "continent" - ie: Western Europe except the UK. The Vienna Circle is also from the continent. Therefore, continental philosophy.

Thanks, and yeah, that's what I'm going to blame it on. Competitive nature of this thing, not very focused SOP, poor quant GRE score, lack of prestigious school.
Honestly at first I was tempted to deny UVA for an MA so I could have a chance to do it again, the more I look at UVA and talked to some students there the more I will probably accept if I get off the waitlist. Students have great things to say about it and their placement is decently strong. But there are also some good reasons not too, and I'll cross that bridge if I get in. I hope I do though, UVA is close to home (relative to the US, I grew up about 3 hours drive to the east) and I know the area well, and I would love to live there and be near the Appalachian trail and I'm a fan of Thomas Jefferson.
Also you never friended me on facebook

You're lucky you didn't include the abstract:
"Andy Clark and David Chalmers argue that the hypothesis of extended memory and belief (HEMB) provides more explanatory power then its denial;"
Do you mean than its denial?
Your writing sample would have contained an error in the first sentence.

I have declined University of Arizona and UCSD, and I just withdrew from University of Toronto's wait list. Good luck, all -- I sincerely hope this makes good things happen for others here.

I was kind of disappointed yesterday because I hadn't heard from NYU. I woke up and saw this email from Stephen Schiffer!!! "I wanted to speak with you personally by telephone but couldn't find a number for you. So this is to tell you that we were very impressed with your application and that we have recommended to the Graduate School that you be accepted into our entering PhD class of 2014" This is the best day of my life!

Comments by Leiter in various places. He's just shitting on continental philosophy, and I find the way he does it funny. People have told me I have a weird sense of humour though.

Lol. Accepted into Harvard, might not go because the letter was rude.
Man I want that problem.
