  1. Thesis writing is hard when I JUST WANNA START MY PHD.
  2. Depends on the school. Some schools take weeks, others only a few days.
  3. Here's my sweet baby, Lyra. I share a small apartment with my boyfriend and she's more than comfortable. It can be done if the cat has a lazy AF and chill personality. You may have more issues with a rambunctious one in a small living space. I wish I could have a dog too though. :/ I am definitely more of a dog person. Anyway, my lunch menu is brie, crackers, and a Green Flash West Coast IPA.
  4. Don't. At most bring a notepad and maybe sketch something out **IF** they ask for something specific. Obviously I can't speak for every school but a good part of the interview is to see if you can hold an academic conversation, not to quiz you research minutia. Talk about your research as if you're explaining the abstract. Also, watch this NIH lecture on interviewing: http://videocast.nih.gov/summary.asp?Live=9809&bhcp=1
  5. Keep your chin up Also I would drop that client like a sack of potatoes (just kidding. I actually love potatoes).
  6. I'm drooling just thinking about doing it animal-style Also, I don't know if there's a Philz Coffee near the Davis area, but if there is, I would go there. Turns out Gatsby's Diner is closed. This breaks my heart It was such a good burger and shake.
  7. (Sorry for the double post) AND GATSBY DINER. Sincerely, The somehow not overweight Californian Grad Cafe-r.
  8. Btw, if you attend UC Davis....Oz Korean BBQ (in Sacramento). Go eat there!
  9. So I've been given the option to start my first lab rotation in July. Is it bad that I want to accept the early start date and take an extended vacation from now to July...? I'm currently unemployed (technically) and working remotely on my thesis and a couple of side projects.
  10. It's going slowly. I scratched out maybe a third of the writing load. And I'm working both remotely and with limited adviser contact. You?
  11. Oh dear lord..... I'm gonna drink this beer in your honor.
  12. I'm having the hardest time writing my thesis. My mentality is that I have an outline already and I just need inspiration. Last-minute inspiration. God help me, this senioritis is real.
  13. @Foreveronward /r/gradadmissions was what I previously browsed. Sigh.
  14. A preliminary waitlist. If an invite declines his/her offer, then that offer is passed down to one of us poor unfortunate souls.
  15. Official email from WashU saying that I'm waitlisted. If one of you suckers aren't gonna take that offer, GIMME!
  16. I mention them because I miss them too There hasn't been a day where I don't crave a California burrito......
  17. No two foods go together as well as popcorn and beer do. Dry and salty popcorn vs cold and refreshing beer. I recommend a hefeweizen. Hopefully by the time I get a car, it won't be like that Well, if you do go to SD, you'll gain about 10lbs via those sweet delicious burritos.
  18. Thanks! Wtf is a pre-interview? Good luck!
  19. I've actually been living here for about three weeks now! You know of any good hiking spots? I'm still working on getting a car over here but as soon as I get one, I'm hiking a new trail every week! Also, I see you're interviewing at UCSD. Eat a lot of Mexican food for me! And Phil's BBQ. And Slater's 50/50. And In-N-Out. But definitely go to the Stone Brewery at Liberty Station. Okay, I'm drooling now.... (homesick Southern Californian here!)
  20. Turns out one interview was enough! I'm celebrating with beer and popcorn for lunch instead of working!! (aka: yet another excuse to not write my thesis)
  21. I find it hard to believe that an adult human being doesn't know how to vacuum. Even my cat is able to turn one on (to her dismay).
