  1. I hate to be Debbie Downer, but I've heard this April 15th deadlines is only for offers with financial support (https://www.cgsnet.org/april-15-resolution). Also, it depends on if the school signed the April 15th resolution.. here's a list of schools : https://www.cgsnet.org/ckfinder/userfiles/files/CGS_Resolution.pdf. I mean it covers basically every major school but if the school didn't sign this, I don't think they have to abide by the deadline... Regardless, I think you should still talk to the school to see if the date is flexible and tell them about your situation. March 3rd is an insanely early time to decide where to go (like you said, interviews are still in full swing!).
  2. Most people that I've interviewed with wore black blazers with dress shirts underneath and pants/skirts. I also dress that way, even in Skype interviews! I actually like dressing up really formal because in a strange way it makes me really aware of my posture and it feels kind of empowering...
  3. Thanks for the info! Yeah, I know many of the students at the program I applied to end up finding jobs as school psychologists easily, I just didn't know if there were any other implications. The interview day at Syracuse was really great! Of course, they had like 2-3 feet of snow so the weather wasn't so amazing... but the faculty were all incredibly nice and approachable. They also kept us with surrounded by grad students who worked with faculty we had expressed interest in, so there were plenty of opportunities to ask questions. All of the grad students seemed very happy in the program and supportive of each other. The interview process was pretty rough though: 30 minute individual interviews with each faculty member along with a grad committee interview and writing task. I will note that the program holds a behavioral school of thought and highly intervention-focused, which might not be appealing to some people. But all in all I thought it seemed like a great program! What's especially nice is that they won't accept someone unless they have funding for them...so you're guaranteed funding for all of your time there.
  4. Hey guys-- I have a question that I've been wondering about. Are there any major downsides to attending a school that is not NASP-accredited? I think the reason for this is the internship requirements of the program (it doesn't require that students do their internship in a school setting). I was just wondering because I might want to go the practitioner route instead of academia in the future, and I didn't know if not attending a NASP-accredited school would be a huge impact. I should say that the program IS APA accredited.
  5. Thanks! It was the only one I didn't have to interview for... unfortunately I'm learning for other schools that interviews do not necessarily mean acceptances, especially when they're interviewing 3-4 people for each slot. Do your programs require interviews? Even if they do, perhaps different POIs are sending out interview invites at different times. You could contact the administrators of the programs if you're looking for an update on your admission status, I know they can usually tell you what's going on. I tell ya, applying for grad school has been the most anxiety-inducing thing I've ever done.
  6. There's probably a good reason for not sending out rejections right away. Some schools like to play their cards close to their chest, so they might not reject people until they confirm that they have applicants who can fill their spots. I guess it's smart on their part, but it's annoying for the rest of us
  7. I just received an email today for their interview day, so I would be on the lookout for an email!
  8. I have sent emails to POIs with mixed results. I sent emails to POIs at Berkeley and UMD and they told me that the admissions committees actually pick students (faculty don't have a say in who they want, so it wasn't necessary to send the emails), but other programs (like UCSB) admit based on who faculty pick, so it would be wise to contact professors in those instances. Basically, it just depends on the program.
  9. I was actually looking into that program earlier, and one thing I didn't like about the program was that you had to apply to be elevated to the EdS program once you're in the master's program (if you don't already have a master's degree), so maybe those who didn't attend got accepted directly into an EdS program? Also, I'm not entirely sure how great their funding is...that would probably be a big reason why some people might not attend... I'm not applying to that many PhD programs either. I crossed two programs off of my list earlier, so now I'm down to 9 schools (5 PhD) which seems like a lot, but makes me worried that I might not get in anywhere.
  10. I'm applying to the University of Washington's EdS program and they don't mention anything about research experience in their school psych admissions page. They do however say that "Preferential consideration is given to applicants with employment or volunteer experience in the schools, pre-K - 12." So, I think working with children is way more important to these programs than research!
  11. Hey guys--I've lurked a lot around the forum but I figured now would be a great time to chime in! I'm actually applying to school psychology programs for next fall, too! All my applications are ready to be submitted, just waiting for one more professor to submit her LOR... I'm applying to a mix of EdS and PhD programs on the East and West coasts (but I'm not sure if I have enough research experience for the PhD programs..) Anyway, what a stressful process! I'm finally glad to meet some people applying to school psych programs. All the other psych majors around here who are considering grad school are focused on clinical psych...
