  1. That's not rude at all. Program coordinators are usually the nicest and most understanding people so if you just let them know, they definitely will understand (and they definitely won't think of you any differently). You can also try and schedule a personal visit when you talk to them.
  2. There are many chem programs that admit students for Spring semester. I believe financial support is only available for PhD and not Masters track at most places. You can look at this list: http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-science-schools/chemistry-rankings The last time I looked, the top 30 only offers Fall admission (but if you find a program that you really like, it doesn't hurt to call the admission coordinator to see what they can do for you). Hope that helps!
  3. I think the single in GC has plenty of space. So that won't be an issue for grad students. We didn't tour the annex so I can't tell you much about that. I look at the rates of all the apts on the graduate housing website. For the studio, it's about $790.
  4. The visit was awesome! I got to room with another theoretical/physical incoming grad student and he loves it too. For my budget, I decided on either old/new GC or Lawrence studio. I hear Lawrence apts are hard to get just because we don't have the priority. I toured both places and everything looks pretty nice. GC is pretty much a dorm. Let me know if you have more specific questions!
  5. I'm an international student but I've been in the US for a while. I plan on being in the organic division. Thanks for the link. I was looking at it earlier and honestly, it's hard to judge unless you're there in person. I'll try my best to describe it to you once I get back.
  6. I'm not sure. I'll be visiting Feb 27th and we're supposed to get a tour of graduate housing. I'm actually trying to get into Lawrence complex if possible just because of the cost. I hear it's difficult to get as a first year. Are you planning on visiting? If you can't make it, I'll let you know how they are once I get back. Congrats on all your acceptances and your decision!!!
  7. Hey! I'm thinking about accepting the offer from Princeton soon. I've been talking to a few people about graduate life at Princeton and I have decided to go for graduate housing for at least my first year. From just looking at the prices on the internet, it is definitely cheaper unless you have a roommate.
  8. Professors have different views on how impactful the journals are. JACS and ACIE are about the same impact level I think but some people like JACS better, some like ACIE better. (I personally would love to have a paper in ACIE before JACS one day) There are cases where the professors know the editor(s) and think they have a better shot at getting the paper sent out to be reviewed. Some also publish in one journal to promote it since they're on the advisory/editorial board.
  9. I contacted Princeton yesterday and was informed that the funding level just got approved so we will hear very soon.
  10. Congrats! Schools are obviously thinking really highly of you. Which division are you thinking about pursuing your PhD in?
  11. Thanks so much for this info! Fingers crossed for all of us!
  12. I don't think so. Since the deadline for UW-Madison is on Jan 1st, they probably have a lot of applications to go through and they just haven't gotten to yours yet. Have you contacted anyone over there about your application?
  13. I think if you have contacted the professors and they expressed interest in working with you, it is ok to ask about the process. But honestly, it's almost the end of January, when most decisions should be made. I know it's no fun waiting around but I would give it another week. Just my opinion though.
  14. Last time I went through the admission process, when I informed other schools about my decision, I kept it short and simple. I also made sure they know that I am very grateful for the consideration and the offer. As far as reason goes, I never gave mine and nobody ever asked. I think unless a school really really wants you, they will follow up and see if there's anything they can do to get you to reconsider. I have also talked to a few admission coordinators about things like this and a lot of people don't even say anything. The department have to wait till April 16th to assume safely that people declined their offers. I think what you're doing will be really appreciated by everybody Congrats on all your acceptances!
  15. Hang in there! It's still early. You just need one!!!!
  16. Congrats! If you decide to visit, let me know. Would love to meet another fellow organic chemist!
  17. Thanks! Organic division...but I love metal-catalyzed rxns the most!
  18. Just got accepted via e-mail from Princeton! First one for me!!!!! Visitation weekends: February 28-March 1, March 7-8, or March 28-29
