Sounds like there's some relationship hesitation to say the least, especially given your statements. Especially if you two havent formally lived together. He might not be ready. Or he may be, but just is selfish or not thinking it through. If you don't want to do the LDR thing, and I dont blame you, you need to be upfront about that and say it. Explain why having both of you at the same school makes sense for the relationship, financially and academically. Do it nicely but firmly. And don't look back or be wishy-washy about it.

About 25,640 blocks to cover the 1282 miles to Winnipeg. But those are the short, dinky N-S blocks along the Avenues. Using the longer E-W blocks along the Streets you only get 7692 blocks between NYC and the Great White North (6 blocks per mile). Or to put it in other NY terms, Winnipeg would be about 3127 Local Subway Stops away based on IRT Spacing. Better hope they offer express service.

I applied in December to NYU and January to CUNY. NYU JUST got back to me on monday and Baruch's decisions went out in the mail yesterday.

Dream School + triple the debt, or Safety School?
pea-jay replied to Diverchica's topic in Decisions, Decisions
I worry about this too. All things being equal, i'd prefer to go to NYU. But at up to $64K for the program total, da-yum that is an eye-popper especially compared to the much cheaper CUNY school. Do the math first. Maybe do a comparison list of pros and cons. Or just go with your gut feelings... -
It's not IT but the Census Bureau is hiring for exactly that same time frame. 11something an hour to start.

email, no physical letters to be sent. Financial Aid will be sent separately in the mail though.

I'm not trying to be a pain in the school's rear but should I write them and inform them of my admit to the *other* school three stops south on the Lexington Avenue Local? I've had good communications with the the admissions director and faculty and would be a good fit there. However they have one of the latest deadlines amongst MPA schools and I fear getting an acceptance letter way too late from them. Honestly, both schools have reasons why I should or shouldnt attend, but I cant really compare them unless I have two offers. Given the fact that I HAVE to write the school to get my name in for consideration for an assistanceship, can or should I reference my NYU admit?

My wife did the 90+ minute commute thing during a part of her UG. It sucked for her but having a new car that got 45+ mpg did make things bearable financially. The other option was to wait for the same courses to pop up at her campus, which would have dragged out the process even further.

Accepting an offer before I hear back about funding from another
pea-jay replied to murpstud's topic in Decisions, Decisions
I'm in a similar position. I'm in at a very expensive school with no scholarship money and vague discussions on RA positions, grants and loans. Very uncertain. The other school, which is far cheaper to attend hasn't responded back and might not until a week or two before I have to declare my intent. Both schools have positive attributes on why I should attend but making a good decision without all the information isnt a position I want to be in either. -

I'm at 50% now. Of course that's easy when you only have two applications outstanding. Yesterday I was at 0% notification and it sucked big time

Congratulations! Got in as well. Hopefully I'll put everything together and be there in the fall as well.

Got my acceptance letter this afternoon, but with no scholarship. From the sound of the letter, non-scholarship financial aid opportunities are still forthcoming.

I'm getting a professional degree sans stipend, so my wife will have to work. Our kids are both in school though and I supported her when she finished her UG. Plus its only 2 years, so it wont be too bad.

If you're moving quite a distance to school...
pea-jay replied to Leahlearns's topic in Officially Grads
Going to move from SF Bay area to NYC. I hope to make at least one trip out there before the start of school. Failing that there is always short-term furnished apartments. It is pricey compared to an actual unit but it beats staying in a hotel or worse getting locked into a year lease in a craphole you didnt know you were getting yourself into. Plus, if you are having your stuff shipped for you and you fly ahead, you're probably going to want something to sleep and sit on! -
Had a French-style breakfast and gyros, both along 30th Avenue. Yep, great eats and more reasonable than Manhattan. Stops along the 7 are great for cheap international food too.
