  1. Rachel told me that there are 4 alternates for Latvia, which seems a bit odd given that there are only four grants available. If they didn't decrease the number of grants (i.e. 6-8 people were named finalists), it stands to reason that no one was rejected.
  2. Were we supposed to indicate to IIE that we want to remain alternates? My mom received the physical letter and paraphrased it for me; I never got to read the full text. I assumed that they'd consider us alternates unless we specified otherwise?
  3. I found out that I'm an alternate yesterday. I'm treating it like a rejection and moving on. Good luck to everyone still waiting.
  4. I'll be relieved whatever the outcome is. Everything is on hold until I hear about the Fulbright; if I'm named an alternate, I'll probably leave it at that and start trying to sort out other plans. Rachel told me the same thing, and she sounded pretty steadfast about it so I didn't push any further. Maybe some region admins are more flexible than others
  5. Just called Rachel; she said the letters were being printed and that they'd probably go out today or tomorrow. She also said there's no way to get word over the phone or email. So hopefully we'll all know by Tuesday / Wednesday.
  6. I might do it. I really need to know; I've got two other things on the line and they both need to hear back by Friday. I'll report back with an update.
  7. Latvia folks: Got an email from Rachel today: Translation: You will never, ever receive notification.
  8. FSB decisions or Lithuanian Fulbright Commission decisions?
  9. I'm inclined to say 'less' because if it was more they could just make anyone past the original number an alternate.
  10. wow, that's terrible news. Mid-April? Looks like Latvia will be one of the last countries to find out. I believe FSB = Fulbright Scholarship Board. They determine the number of scholarships allocated to each country. My guess is that the number of scholarships allocated to Latvia changed at some point and they're waiting to see if any scholarship money becomes available before making a determination. Either way, this wait is becoming annoying.
  11. Any idea if these procedures can be done abroad?
  12. She told me that notifications would be sent 'sometime this month', but maybe she had new information when she spoke with you.
  13. She told me the same thing. Did she specifically say early April?
  14. Hi Intaglio6,

Do you have any background in Latvian? I've applied to Lithuania for a Fulbright and I plan on taking language courses over the summer. Will you study Latvian prior to leaving and if so will you do it in Latvia?
