Is there a reason you didn't apply to more than 2 schools? Both of the schools you applied to are incredibly competitive to get into. What about trying to find a different company to work for and then applying to more schools next cycle? Honestly I'm not shocked that you didn't get interviews at either school, sometimes it just depends on who is on the adcom that cycle.

You shouldn't care about the reputation of the school. What school has more PI's you want to work with? Who did you get a long with better? Which labs are better funded? The reputation of the school should be the last thing you consider.

A friend of mine interviewed on the first recruitment weekend and she was accepted this week. They may just be telling people from the first weekend. They might not have gotten to yours yet.

Yeah I did. The first round of interviews were the Jan 23-25th. The admissions committee started sending out acceptances already.

Did you sign the official paperwork, if there was any? If you were accepted that doesn't mean you were admitted. You can for sure make you final decision after all of your interviews that is why you official notice is like April 15th or something like that.

I just had my first interview. You will actually be missing a lot b/c they have events after the interviews are over and that night. You also would have less time to get to know your potential future cohort. The biggest thing is that its going to be a hassle to reschedule the interview just for you. You might not get your list of PI's you wanted and could end up with PI's you are not interested in working with.

What about doing a masters program. I know some programs will use your last 60 units or test scores if you don't have a 3.0. CSU Channel islands has a biotechnology and bioinformatics masters degree program. Take a look a it.

Also some graduate programs have diversity essays where you could explain your situation.
