  1. You should see section five of the program handbook. <http://www.compbio.pitt.edu/policies_procedures/programhandbook.html>
  2. Two of my interview invites and my acceptance at UIUC all went to my Gmail spam folder...I check it every time I check my email.
  3. Something like this happened to me too. When I went to register for an interview date at UTSW, I chose the first of two dates as my first choice and moved on to the second page. When I went back to the first page to look over my answers, the first date had disappeared! So I selected the second date instead and submitted the form. Much to my surprise, UTSW sent me a flight itinerary for the first date the next day. My point is that the disappearing interview dates are clearly caused by a bug on their interview registration webpage. The trip coordinators should be aware of this bug and shouldn't hold it against you. Even if there weren't a bug, and you just made a mistake, there should be no reason for them to be upset with you for changing your date before the ticket had been purchased. Further, all interview dates should be equal, so the only real benefit of going earlier is that you find out your admission decision earlier. You have nothing at all to worry about.
  4. Some people will dress up regardless of what the coordinators say. If I went to an interview and the majority of people were dressed more formally than me, I would feel uncomfortable. Consequently, I choose to dress a little more formally than the coordinators say, just in case.
  5. Thanks! I am interested in simulating biological systems using physical theory. Most of the work at UTSW is experimental, and the work that is computational is mostly analysis of experimental data. The simulation work that is being done doesn't really seem to be rooted in physical theory. I did say whose research I thought was most in line with my current research interests in my statement of purpose, but UTSW did not ask who I wanted to interview with. The problem really wasn't that I met with the wrong people, though...the people I met with all had research that complements or is similar to the research I want to do in grad school. The problem was that no one at UTSW is quite doing exactly what I want to do in grad school.
  6. In case anyone is wondering, UTSW has the same turn-around time and will tell you as much if you interview there. It is really nice to hear back so quickly!
  7. Big day today! Got my interview invite from UCSF and a rejection from UTSW after interviewing there last week. I honestly would have felt a little awkward if they had accepted me because I think it was apparent to both sides that the research being done there and my current research interests are pretty poorly matched.
  8. Ahhhh! I got my first acceptance today from UIUC! Not sure if I'll end up going there (I love the program but am not so hot on the location), but I can now say definitively that I will be a grad student in the fall, come hell or high water. I want to cry...I had my first interviews today too, and I'm exhausted. Not all of them went as well as I would have liked, and I was beginning to have some doubts about whether I was cut out for this or not. For those of you who are getting bad news and beginning to have doubts yourself, don't give up hope! It's not over until it's over, and then there's always next year! Just remember that over the next few weeks.
  9. I didn't hear anything either. I'm hoping for better news today or tomorrow!
  10. One is this week, 1/9-1/11, and the other is 2/20-2/22. Thanks!
  11. If the results from the last two years are any indication, all interviews and some initial rejections (yikes!) will go out next week over the course of three or four days.
  12. For those who recently (or not so recently) were invited to interview for QCB@Princeton, the email from the chair of the admissions committee went to my inbox, but the email from student administrator who is arranging my visit went to my (gmail) spam folder. Just FYI.
