So, when I got the call from Florida I failed to make note of person who called me. Yay me. I assumed that it was the DGS, which would be Sid Dobrin, because another admit on here said that they got a call from Dr. Dobrin --so I emailed him with some followup questions. But I'm feeling paranoid now that maybe it was Kenneth Kidd (dept. chair who is also a Victorianist and one of my POIs) who called. Did everyone else get called by the same person? Or did you get a call from one of your POIs? I keep checking my email hoping I didn't just make myself look like an enormous idiot, but they way this week is going, I probably did...

I was just leaving work for the day when I got my second acceptance. The phone rang and I sat in the parking lot for 15 minutes talking to the DGS about funding and coursework.

I'm accepted at U Florida! Just got off the phone with the DGS. They are only taking 9 applicants this year, and have over 200 applications. Funding is fairly dismal. They won't pay for me to visit. But, I am eligible for the Kirkland Fellowship because I'm a Victorianist, so that would make a large difference in the funding. Moments later, I checked my email and discovered I'd been rejected by U Chicago. They didn't offer me an M.A. but I already have one.

I concur. It's the only logical explanation. I joined Phi Beta Kappa, but will not renew membership. I think it's good to have on your CV (and they've got some great scholarships, if you can get them), but not really necessary to maintain membership... Edit: mixed up my Phi Betas...I joined Phi Beta Phi. d'oh.

I still haven't heard from U Chicago, either.

Also waiting for UDub. They're only really an option for me if they can offer first year funding (which is apparently uncommon), but I still want to know whether I can rule them out or not. I just want to make my decision so I can get excited about moving and maybe look for a summer job in my new city.
