  1. Well, I'm very close to the beginning of the alphabet and haven't seen an email yet.
  2. Yeah, I would come before her if they were doing it alphabetically. *shrug* Who can fathom the mystery that is PhD app notifications?
  3. Could you tell us what letter her last name starts with--maybe they're doing the notifications alphabetically?
  4. Mmm. That'd do it, too. Unfortunately, it's PB&J for me.
  5. *eye twitches* That is just wrong. And my eye really is twitching. Sigh. I need a glass of wine.
  6. BLERG. There went my composure for the day, and I've got to teach in an hour. Maybe I'll try meditation.

  8. To any of the Boulder waitlisters--did the department email you without prompting, or did you have to ask for your status to find out that you were waitlisted? I just want to know where I stand!
  9. marsupials Unfortunately, the cat consumed all glory of the moon and stars. It gave him severe anxiety, but also he received the power to fly. A joy. Suddenly...Bees! They flew around, jealous, plotting murder, arson, etc. They were searching for hundreds of floating wildebeest. These evil bees converged into a mega bee! Zooming fiercely throughout the glen, until they could find unsuspecting marsupials
  10. Well. that's good to know. At this point I just want to hear back from the rest of my schools so I can make a decision and start getting ready to move. Admittedly, the once acceptance I have is definitely one of my top choices, so that's really changed my perspective on things.
  11. This is how I feel about CU Boulder and U Chicago. Gah.
  12. Lake Street Dive, Colin Hay, lots and lots of Sam Phillips, Jolie Holland, The Be Good Tanyas, Trampled by Turtles, and Holy Ghost Tent Revival (an irreverent mix of bluegrass/punk/ska).
  13. Finish writing my urban fantasy novel (really, I have a standing goal of drafting a book every summer, so that I can edit it sporadically throughout the rest of the year...some years it works, some years comps exams take over my life). Work on my French skills (really a prep before grad school thing, but meh). Conquer the world. Oh, wait, that's my cat's bucket list...

  17. I made working out consistently this semester's goal (along with revising/submitting a few papers for publication) because I'm just teaching, not taking classes. I've found that hoola hooping (with a weighted, adult sized hoop) lets me work out at home, which means I'm more likely to do it...that and it's both low impact and high results (burns 7 calories a minute, give or take).
  18. Sadly, no. Not yet. I've been doing this for a while but the SO hasn't and he's got a bit of stage fright still. I'm hoping to get something up over the summer, though.
  19. At school, I'm happy to share my news. But I'm only in my office two days a week, so it's easy to duck questions. But my family is giving me a constant stream of guilt trips that I might be going far away. I've only got one acceptance so far, and it seems as though everyone is rooting for the lose one where I'm possibly waitlisted. I *want* to go very far away, but I can't very well tell them that :/
  20. I want to have school spirit and be somewhere with a lot of school spirit, too. I never really had school spirit at my Alma mater just because (1) the school was old news to me by the time I attended and, (2) our only good sports team was soccer (which I love, nevertheless).
  21. I've recently become a big fan of veggie burgers...there are about a million recipes but anything with quinoa and beets usually turns out tasty.
  22. French fries are my crack.
  23. It looks like last year they started notifying at the very end of February. Not that last year's pattern means anything definitively. But I'm waiting on them, too!
