Hi you guys who received multiple offers,
time to move on to withdraw from the wait lists and deny the offers that you will not take? Poor folks are waiting to get off waitlists in desperation. This application season is almost over. You may get a drink from me .

Thanks for all you guys who denied the acceptances that you will not take in a timely manner. Hope everyone would do this to help out those poor souls and help to alleviate the April 15 disaster.

Thanks, DHume. Deal. It is reasonable to hang onto the Yale wait list for a while, though it is not very likely to get off a highly-ranked program like Yale. But it is interesting to see if one could get off it.

Firstly, congrats to Ian on the UW-M wait list and to all you guys on the acceptances and waitlists!
Second, I am sorry for the half-joking request on DHumedorminates to turn down other offers if he or she wants to get into Harvard. When I said this, I was partly meaning to say that Harvard is so high that an immediate decision can be easily made regarding its offer. But my wording was misleading. I did not mean to press and entirely agree that it is reasonable to sit on to multiple offers until a later date. I hope DHumedorminates did not feel the pressure (By the way, are there any Humean scholars in Harvard philosophy department? I know there are many Kantians working there, but am not sure if there are any Humeans. )

Congratulations!!! I think you will take the Harvard offer of admission. So, would you please turn down the acceptances and waitlists at all other schools as soon as possible to help out other applicants? Thanks.

Entirely agree. GRE measures NOT the abilities to be used for success in graduate programs, but the skills of test taking and the quality and quantity of preparation for it. It is ridiculous for us to devote so much time and money on it merely to get a good score, without any improvement on our analytic or philosophical abilities. Fortunately, many truly great and wise admissions committee do not give GRE much weight, but many frustratingly use it as a tool of cut-off. Besides Rutgers mentioned above, WUSTL might possibly make GRE cutoffs too.

Wow, really a personalized letter of acceptance! Obviously, you are their No. 1 choice candidate. Is there a specific philosopher at this university with whom you want to work, if you do not mind my asking? If so, did you mention it in your statement of purpose? Please PM me about these questions if you prefer. Thanks so much. Congratulations on the three (!) acceptances. You are a really really strong applicant. (Most likely born a philosopher.)

Yes, this makes good sense, Table. Thanks. I did not realize that they would keep your file for the whole year. I guess there may be thousands of applications for the graduate school each year.
