  1. Which of the two has a stronger CS department? Which are the individual strengths? *Rutgers New Brunswick
  2. Has anyone heard from the Boston University and UTD PhD program?
  3. Unfortunately, no. Lack of clear information on the website before application has led to this confusion. I really want to get in the program, but I am not keen on the experimental technique the lab uses.
  4. How do I mention in a grad school interview that I am interested in a different lab than the one I am interviewing for? I have developed interest for a different lab under a professor who joined after the application deadline and hence I could not mention him in my essay. I am interviewing with the prof mentioned in the essay but I am less inclined on it after learning more about his work. Some of the things weren't mentioned clearly on website. How should I mention this in grad school interviews without jeopardizing my admission?
  5. Did anyone have their interview at NYU's Cognition and Perception so far (this year, or previous years)? Please do share your experience.
  6. Can an interviewee in a graduate school admission interview session ask the faculty why they chose to invite the student to the recruitment weekend? Since the interviewing faculty always ask why the student chose the said school, and chose to interact with the said faculty...can the student ask the converse...
  7. Did anyone have their interview weekend this weekend? Please share experience.
  8. Thanks. Good luck then! I haven't heard from them, so I'd assume that it isn't an admit for me!
  9. Thanks. I see that you are not in US, so do you have a skype interview? Any clue if this is an interview or a final admitted list...
  10. Anyone has heard from UCI Cognitive Neuro and UTD Cognition and Neuroscience, as well as Purdue MCCS
  11. I haven't heard from BU either...and I remember their interview dates are March 3-4. Sigh...I am guessing they must have already sent interview invites.
  12. How is the PhD program in Cognition and Neuroscience at UTD? I haven't heard much about it in the rankings but the program seems pretty good, and so does some of the faculty in the ANN track esp.
  13. No I don't. But they said that they are having many invites so my guess is it should include both social and cognition perception. But I could be wrong.
  14. I see that you are interviewing at Purdue. What program is this for? When are the interviews and when did you hear from them? I am waiting to hear on the MCCS track in Psych.
  15. Well, I was referring to the specific programs not the overall ranking. I know overall NYU is a great school... U. of Rochester - Brain and Cognitive Science program Rutgers - Cognitive Science PhD NYU - Cognition and Perception PhD Purdue - Mathematical and Computational Cognitive Science PhD Sorry it wasn't clear before.
  16. What is the ranking of the program at U. of Rochester? How good is it in comparison to Rutgers and NYU and Purdue? Referring to the programs, not university per se: U. of Rochester - Brain and Cognitive Science program Rutgers - Cognitive Science PhD NYU - Cognition and Perception PhD Purdue - Mathematical and Computational Cognitive Science PhD
  17. This is great. Thanks. Would they ask technical questions? I have an engineering background, but it has been three years that I have done programming or the like...so I am worried about programming or math questions which would require some revision and I am not sure if it can be done in two weeks...just want to gain perspective. Thanks!
  18. Well I suppose because I have a detailed interview schedule already for Feb 21, so I think Feb 14 must be planned as well.
  19. Northwestern, Feb 7-8 IU Bloomington, Feb. 7-8 WUSTL, Feb 12-14 NYU Feb 14/21 Western Michigan Feb 14-15 U Chicago 2/15-2/17 Cornell: 2/21-22 University of Washington, Feb 21-22 Rochester: 2/21 Auburn (experimental), Feb 21-22 U Mich, Feb 21-22 Rutgers, Feb 28 UC Merced: 2/28-3/1
  20. Yes. I received an email on Jan 14, and interviews are on Feb 14 and Feb 21.
  21. What to expect in an interview for admission to a cognitive science program? Background is in engineering. I have been getting very positive sounding emails that only subtly refer to an interview...are these informal, getting-to-know-you interviews or are these technical and intensive? What should be the strategy to present your best?
