  1. Thanks for the information in regards to housing. I'm considering getting into grad housing at Columbia for at least the first year of the program. I don't think I can manage scouting for housing in NYC while I'm in California. It was a tortious enough experience finding housing in the Bay Area while I lived here--and I didn't have the additional pressures of starting a new grad program. I'll consider the first year in NYC as an oppurtunity to look for housing before the students come back in August. I'm a little concerned about finding someone who will guarantee me, but I suppose I'll cross that path when I get to it. I'd love more advice on locating house in NYC--especially housing convenient for commuting to Columbia--or info on what areas are good to live in. Do most students gravitate towards Brooklyn?
  2. Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Columbia's grad student housing. How big are the apartments? What's the quality like?
  3. I'm in a similar predicament regarding making a move—though not as far in distance, it does feel like a huge and anxiety provoking shift. My choices for PhD programs seem to have narrowed down to the East Coast, which is far away from my fondest people and places. Every night I stay awake considering the friends I'll have to shed, the bit of family I have left that I would have to leave far behind, and my three-year relationship that'd likely have to end. I don't know how others have managed it. Do people often go to graduate programs alone? Do they break up with significant others? I admit that the promise of starting anew sounds exciting, but I'm more often plagued by worry and guilt that what I would leave behind might not ever be matched again.
  4. Sorry to hear that. But there's always other universities to make new memories, right? Hope everything else pans out for you.
  5. Thanks for all your updates!

It's hard to tell, but I would love to side with your optimism. The results were posted around the same time as they were last cycle. A few more were added later at that time, so it's possible we'll see some more admissions next week? Just have to wait and see.

Yeah, this was a bummer week. :\ I'm hoping Harvard and Yale will be posting more decisions later. Anyone have any details regarding Harvard? Were the emails from POIs?

  11. Hm. I would be very interested to know whether this notification came from a POI excited to inform their prospective student or if this was part of Harvard's mass admissions.
  12. I don't have any inside info, but I would continue to hold out hope. It's still early and there's the possibility they'll send you an offer next month. Not everyone is interviewed, I would imagine.
  13. Thank you! And congrats as well. I'm hoping to study modern American history with an emphasis on business and economic thought.
  14. Just wanted to confirm that I was indeed accepted into NYU's history program—after Skype and phone interviews last month.
  15. POI contacted me on the 26th. I received the official letter the next day.
