  1. Berkeley, Duke, Chapel Hill, Irvine, Vanderbilt, Davis, U of Washington, Riverside, Boulder, Oregon, Arizona State, Lincoln, Florida State, and Baylor. I tried to make sure I had a couple schools in every tier, so I applied from rank 1 to rank 121. How about you? The only rejection that is really going to kill me is Berkeley. I'm in love with that place. I walked around the campus in October while at a conference and just fell for the school so hard. It will break my heart.
  2. Oh well... For me, that's one likely rejection down, thirteen rejections to go. Haha.
  3. I hate to bring the bad news, but apparently the person who posted in the 10th was actually notified the same time as the others (according to the date he/she listed). It looks like the only year where they did two rounds of acceptances was 2008.
  4. Perhaps. I'm not holding out much hope for myself, but you never know!
  5. Lol. Have confidence! It's all about "fit" and I'm sure each of us will find the school that works best for us!
  6. Yeah, the applicants.siss.duke.edu link. If you have a notification, it would be on the right hand side of the page. That's different from the actual application, though. It's the link they sent out after your Duke ID is created.
  7. Not a stupid question. That's what mine says too. No notifications yet.
  8. Haha nope. I applied to everything from Rank 1 to Rank 121 and am just hoping someone takes me. Boy this is stressful, isn't it?
  9. I lied again...they notified accepted applicants on January 22nd a few years ago.
  10. Senior year of undergrad and grad. But it's all about fit. I'm sure you have a fabulous chance!
  11. I just checked Duke's boards again. I made a mistake...if gradcafe is a representative sample, they typically notify all applications within a day or two, then rejections are sent in alphabetical order. THAT BEING SAID, they have never notified as early as the 28th. Maybe the person got a fellowship nod?
  12. I know you're right and I'll be happy for those who do get it Sometimes it feels like the hard work is futile. Haha. A 4.0 MA GPA, 168 V, 14 conference presentations, 4 scholarly publications, 4 years teaching experience, and 11 major awards. Most of all, though, I thought the school was an amazing "fit" for me. (This sounds arrogant, but I'm just venting. I know that everyone on these boards is amazing and deserves to get in.) Oh well. Haha. I just hope someone wants me. I applied to 14 schools, so we will see.
  13. It looks like the person on the board was notified on the 28th, which means they probably already hit the H's, which is my last name. Obviously, no one is surprised when they are rejected from Duke, but I have a feeling that I am and it does sting a bit.
  14. Haha love the post, BowTiesAreCool. Jocko, I know of two others on the site who are applying, but that's it. Maybe you're right. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we ended up at irvine?!
  15. According to a previous thread, Duke seems to notify in alphabetical order, but they do acceptances first and rejections after. So if we are admitted, we will probably be notified within the next two or so days =\
  16. I think we need to he careful about panning certain schools just because they aren't in the top fifty. As far as the safety school debate goes, I know I have some schools about which I feel much more confident of my chances. For example, I feel better about my chances at Nebraska than I do about my chances at Berkeley. That doesn't mean Nebraska isn't a fab school and that it is "safe" by any means, but it is "safer" for me to be excited about and I won't be as disappointed when I'm rejected. I guess that's what I mean by a "safety" school, if I were to refer to one as such. As a side note, I am a first round applicant and I know how unlikely it is to be accepted to a PhD program. That being said, I feel confident in my chances. I don't think that others should view me negatively for that. Let us be confident and feel good about ourselves. We haven't yet been around for a couple of application rounds, but that doesn't necessary mean that those who have somehow know better than us how we should feel about our chances. Maybe we are confident for a reason. There is a good chance that won't translate to acceptances, but it doesn't hurt you any for us to be positive about ourselves.
  17. Historically, it looks like Irvine tends to notify accepted applicants the 3rd week of February. They send rejections a few days after their acceptances. This appears to have been the case since 2011. I expect we won't hear from them until around Valentines Day. This is Kamisha's alter-ego, by the way.
  18. I pull 2-3 a week. No joke. It's miserable. I can't believe I work this hard to be this poor.
  19. I'd be willing to sell my soul to get into Berkeley. Is that an option?
  20. This is the alter ego of Kamisha. I got locked out. Boo. I applied to Irvine and haven't heard anything either.
  21. The concept of a "safety" school is silly and naive. There is just no such thing.
