Rejected from Duke. Ah well.

That's me too. I'm confused. I even got the notification via email to check the website and that's what it says.

What did your rejection from Duke say? I just got a letter that said my admission decision was ready, but on the webpage where it says to review, it says "Decision not ready." ????

Duke has officially moved on to rejections. Now we just wait alphabetically by last name to get ours. I'll let you know when they get to the H's.

Yeah it says application says it's under review at the department level and awaiting departmental decision on the grad school level

It's weird...I can't login on my computer because I get the "one moment please..." message that I've never gotten before today. However, when I login on my iPhone, it works just fine.

Well this made my hope go away, but I chuckled all the same. Haha. There is a possibility that they have sent out funded offers; the individuals who received them just may not be on GradCafe =\ Here's to hoping we both get good news soon.

My Nebraska page is suddenly unavailable. I'm hoping ( false hope) that means that, for better or worse, they are updating my status.

So say this whole "academia" thing doesn't work out. What would be your backup plan? Mine is to start a hot chocolate shop. Yep, a hot chocolate shop. Or join the CIA. Sadly, at this point, I feel like succeeding at either of those options is more likely than getting into a PhD program for me I'm feeling glum and I haven't even gotten any rejections! Boo. This game is a confidence killer.

Looks like UNL has started their notification process. They typically accept applicants over about a 4 day span, so I'm trying not to lose hope yet. One of my LoR writers is an alumn of the program; she told me I was a perfect fit and that they'd love me. I'm starting to just feel sick.

There's a whole thread on this somewhere on this website. I actually asked the DGS of my school about this very issue. She said that some schools don't accept you off of wait lists until after the April 15th deadline. If your dream school or a school that is a better fit DOES accept you when you've already agreed to another offer, you should take it. Yes, it will offend the other school, but it's your future. You will burn a few bridges though, so you have to weigh if the school is worth it. If Berkeley accepted me, for example, I would definitely risk burning some bridges. If a school ranked significantly lower accepted me, I probably wouldn't break another offer for it. You have to do what is best in the long run for you.

I'm going to write a novel about this thread. I work in Crime Fiction, so the story will probably end in murder-suicide. And people will be relieved when it's over.

It's possible that the interviews are for University fellowships and not for admissions. I wouldn't be disappointed yet!

I had 4 with 11pt font. I didn't have a papers submitted section, only papers I've published. That being, I know that if there is something tangible about the submission (I.e. You've been in contact and the journal expresses interest) it's not looked down upon to put it on your CV. I might be weary of listing a paper you've seen out without any response. Who knows, though.

Maybe we will be at Chapel Hill together I DO have the paid-interview at Baylor next month, so at least I have something to feel confident about. Haha.

Not exactly an emphasis, but my undergrad thesis and my master's thesis (both in English programs) focus on film and culture.

You are kind. Haha. Berkeley gets over 600 applicants, so qualifications are really secondary. I honestly should have applied to their Film program. It was a better fit. But I want to teach in an English department, so I thought I'd just go for the visual culture sort of emphasis.

Berkeley, Duke, Chapel Hill, Irvine, Vanderbilt, Davis, U of Washington, Riverside, Boulder, Oregon, Arizona State, Lincoln, Florida State, and Baylor. I tried to make sure I had a couple schools in every tier, so I applied from rank 1 to rank 121. How about you? The only rejection that is really going to kill me is Berkeley. I'm in love with that place. I walked around the campus in October while at a conference and just fell for the school so hard. It will break my heart.
