  1. I'm going to be living in NYC and the expenses there are huge. Which of these career paths would be the most lucrative? I was thinking machine learning but I think data mining jobs often require a Phd.
  2. I'm coming from a undergrad CS and math background and I've been admitted to various statistics programs and will most likely be attending cornell or columbia. How is the current job market with this degree? Is the market flooded and filled with applicants? Is it possible to obtain a job in something like finance and algo trading given my background?
  3. Has anyone else applied to his program? I recently found out that the expected incoming class size is only 50 for the Fall. How hard will it be to gain acceptance to the program. I have no research done and my GPA is 3.5 and GRE is 155/165
  4. How many people have applied this year? Is it true that the program is 90% international. Does it mean that the average domestic students are at a big disadvantage applying? I've seen many Chinese student scores and they are extremely high GRE around 160/170 and 3.8 gpa. I'm somewhat depressed about applying and I think most of us domestic students will get rejected. Can anyone clarify this?
  5. I only did the Q on Magoosh for a week and it predicted 159-164. I got 162 on the real thing so it seems accurate.
  6. Manhattan Prep: 160 V, 161 Q Powerprep : 163 V, 164 Q Real test: 155 V, 162 Q I did a lot worse on the verbal portion of the examination than expected from the practice
  7. I recently took the GRE and received 162 for quantitative part and 155 verbal. Let's just say the rest of my application for NYU and Columbia for a MS in CS is very average. Would it make it a big difference on my application to get >=165 from my current score?
  8. I would like to know how competitive this program is and what the profiles of accepted students are.
  9. I spent about a week of preparation and received a score of 155V/162Q/4.5AW. I'm looking into the top 20 statistics masters programs and maybe 1 or 2 middle range CS programs in the US. My GPA is 3.3 and I double majored in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. I'm at the point of obtaining decent letters of recommendation from some of my professors. But I'm worried that my lack of research and not high GRE scores will negatively affect the adcom's decision. Would it make little to no difference in my application if I were to increase my V to 160 and Q to 165? I'm not too sure how competitive the masters programs in statistics are.
