  1. I am sure that someone who is waitlisted will certainly appreciate it. So are you going to UChicago?
  2. Has anyone applied to or heard back from the University of Pittsburgh?
  3. That is incredible. It gives me a lot of hope seeing how abysmal the doctorate completion for grad schools in French are.
  4. For people who are in Austin already, how did you find a roommate? Hey Carrot flowers, I am going for French ling. Since you are in the dept of French and Italian, do you know how the faculty and students in the grad program in French ling are?
  5. Congratulations! I got accepted to IU aswell. Here is to hoping that we both get decent funding. Are you leaning more towards going to Davis or IU? And I did not even know that Davis had a PhD in French ling until I joined grad cafe.
  6. I saw that a few people have heard back from University of Washington at Seattle. Does anyone know if they have made their final decision? I haven't heard anything from them and I might be freaking out a little.
  7. I feel like Austin definitely has a bigger department. Also, UC Davis apparently offers a doctorate in French linguistics as well. I think they have a fairly small department compared to Austin or IU but there might be some phonological there if you want to check them out.
  8. Congratulations! Montréal is such an awesome city!
  9. From my professors in college, UT- Austin has a better reputation but I am not entirely sure myself. I believe that Austin offers better funding than IU though.
  10. Does anyone know if NYU calls all their prospective candidates for an interview? I have not heard anything from them; I don't know if this means I am destined to rejection?!?
  11. Salut Rosetrak, At Austin, did you apply for French linguistics or French Studies?
  12. Hello Inertia, Just like another poster mentioned, I don't think it will matter a great deal that you asked the question. Odds are the professor or the GDA (GSA?) who called you will not even remember whose comment it was anyway. Also, they cannot blame a stressful applicant for asking such a question. Just relax and pretend that it never happened (unless they bring it up over the interview in which case you can just make a joke out of it.) Good luck for your interview! I am sure it will be great.
  13. Hey folks, I am new to the forum. It is amazing that we have a community of future grad students. This seems like a great place to freak out, re-assure, build up some confidence and finally go through this process with a lot of moral support.
