  1. Maybe not, at least inasmuch as he didn't say everything that came to mind without any qualification. His statements were almost always very, very poorly qualified, however.

    Purdue?

I'd be surprised if they're not admitting. Seems a bit late in the game for such an announcement to no have been made. If anyone has any info as to why it's taking so long... that would be very much appreciated.
  3. No... I'm always afraid of looking like "that guy."
  4. I expected more action today. Guess that's what I get for expecting things...
  5. Just out of curiosity, do you have an MA? If not, did you apply to any? There are some that admit in the spring and so on.
  6. I have a low opinion of people that frequently downvote.
  7. Have you been shut out, or shut out so far?
  8. So... is Purdue doing admissions this year?
  9. Sorry to hear that.
  10. I am quite eager to corrupt the local youths...
  11. Got rejected by Rice a couple of days ago, and today I find out I have to get a root canal. Fuck this week. Fuck it right in the ear.
  12. I'm much, much more interested in teaching. My ambition in life is to find unmotivated students (like I once was) and show them that school doesn't have to suck by introducing them to philosophy.
  13. Cograts! The way this round of admissions is going for me, though, I might need something stronger than beer...
  14. Rutgers posting
  15. LSU has changed my application status from "Under Review" to "Under Evaluation." That's... confusingly similar...
  16. Pinkard is wonderful. His commentaries are very clearly written and are very well developed.
  17. I'll admit to a love-hate relationship with Hegel. A large portion of my undergraduate training was conducted under a pair of Hegel scholars, one more traditional, the other a student of Malabou... so yeah. Anyway, the thing about the Logic was more of a joke than anything, but it is true that I bought the book thinking it was going to be about logic in the way people usually think about logic. Personally I prefer to leave speculative philosophy to Hegel and his Owl, but that's just me. I do like his earlier stuff (theological writings) and his lectures quite a bit, though.
  18. Congrats!
  19. LOL! I remember buying Hegel's "Logic" when I was like 19 at a half price books. I didn't know anything about philosophy yet and I thought it was going to be a book about logic. I was wrong.
  20. He wrote two books? I'm way behind.
  21. Crossing my fingers and wishing on a star in hopes that Purdue might send out notifications tomorrow. And throw in Oklahoma for good measure.
  22. The irony of all of this is that he's becoming more famous in philosophy at this very moment than I probably ever will, lol
  23. Ever read Derrida's "Glas"? I try to write like that.
  24. That's interesting indeed. Looks like the one place public education in Illinois is actually poised to grow. Edit: Are you planning to accept? Undecided?
  25. Thanks. Could you write them back and tell them I'd really appreciate a similar offer?
