Yeah, it really sucks, and it's one out of only two acceptances I've received so far. Going from being told that they were "most impressed" by my application and then seeing the rejection notice on the online login was like a kick in the face. I'm really hoping it's just an error! Your post made me feel a little more hopeful, so thanks for the support.
I don't know...I think I have a pretty good case; I'm pretty distressed. I might have to consider it if it was a mistake...lol I hope it works out too. Thanks!
So I'm really confused and on the verge of panicking right now. About two weeks ago, I heard from the director of graduate admissions for the Classics Department at Florida State that I was being offered admission and that they were "most impressed" by my application. He invited me to the open house at the end of the month and said that the graduate school would be contacting me soon. I haven't yet heard from the graduate school, but I happened to login to the online system today, and it said I was rejected! Has anyone else ever had this happen? Did they make some kind of mistake? I contacted the director again and am hoping he will clarify. Help please!
So far out of 7 schools, I have one rejection and one waitlist (and at one of my top choices too!)... This waiting is agony. I wish I had an acceptance to fall back on.
Got my first rejection today. It wasn't unexpected, but with 1 wait-list and 1 rejection and no word from any of the other 5 schools I applied to, I'm struggling.
I was nervous about calling or emailing to see what was happening, but even though I got waitlisted it helped to have some news after not hearing anything at all. I guess it's probably personal preference.
I haven't received a rejection yet, but I'm fully expecting to in the near future. I did receive my first decision today, and it was a wait-list. Better than a full-out rejection, I guess, especially since I am not really expecting to get accepted anywhere (compared to other candidates my qualifications are unexceptional)...
Possibly. I can't say with absolute certainty, but in my case I contacted one of the programs I applied to because I hadn't heard anything despite others posting about interviews and invites to visit, and I was told I was waitlisted. I would say that if it's been a month or two since you applied and you haven't heard anything, it might be a good idea to contact them.
I'm also waiting until May for actual gifts. I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to get my LOR writers...probably some nice chocolate or gift cards to a restaurant or something. One of them really loves going to the movies (he and his wife try and go every weekend), so I think for him I'm going to get a gift card to the local movie theater. In the meantime, I've already thanked all of them, and when I hear back from the schools I applied to, I'll be giving them thank you cards. I figure that will make the actual gifts at the end of the school year more of a surprise...
I'm in the same boat. I haven't heard anything yet from any of the schools I applied to- not even a request for an interview- and there's already acceptances on the board for most of them. Needless to say, I'm approaching full-blown panic mode... I did apply fairly late in the game, so I'm hoping that maybe that has something to do with the silence, but I was already doubting my ability to get in anywhere, so not hearing anything is doing nothing to relieve my fears.
